    Hi

Tried looking through the stickys - a bit confused.

If I am named on my wife's policy to drive her car - does that qualify me to insure a classic as if I have a first car available?

Not quite sure what you mean. If you mean you are a named driver and you want to insure a classic (with I presume the same company) as "your" only car on that policy (as a named driver) then the answer is no I expect.

Open to correction but pretty sure the answe is no. I imagine you must have your own named policy.

Some companies allow classic's to be insured for 'everyday driving' (i.e. your only car).
I think The Atheist has his car insured this way?

    Mike65, yes.

I am look at options then - perhaps look at the way in which Athiest did it. I read on boards somewhere that there was a company doing it - sub E1000 for most classics irrespective of mileage etc.

    Thanks

I am insured on my DS with Carole Nash while I am only a named driver on my wife's car. But the trick is to join a car club and buy your insurance through them. What kind of car have you?

First ireland will do you a 10'000 mile policy for between €550 and €850 in these circumstances.

    Hey Chaz

If you're still looking, the guys are right about the main driver policy.
(Would have replied earlier but am on hols)

First Ireland insured me as a full policy for about 550 Euro with a 10,000 mileage limit. Fully comp, breakdown cover etc.

I had to get this as at the time I was only a named driver on another car and that did not count in getting a actual "classic" policy.

I guess the cost will depend on the engine size and maybe value. (Mine was "only" a 1.6 litre)

[Have since got a main driver and they dropped my policy fee to 110 Euro :) ]

    G'luck!

    Thanks - sounds OK.

Anyone want to trade their classic for my 2003 Laguna :-) ?
