Am thinking of putting in a basalt hearth on the assumption that it will be black and have strong tolerance of heat.
Any one with any info on this. Will it work? Where are possible suppliers?

    Hi Unedo,

I see nobody answered your question, as to Basalt I am at a loss, I do know that slate and marble hearths must be made in at least two seperate pieces for open fires.

One slab will work for gas fires and some stoves where the heat is not so intense.
