Another promising irish youth clubless, couple of clubs interested but nothing solid.

Malaga showing an interest but reckon his agent knows someone thewre wouldnt be a bad move tbh not looking like he gonna be in PL next year so maybe being in one of Europes top leagues wouldnt be bad for him , look at Ian Harte :D

i didnt realise his place was in doubt at sunderland. did he play much this year?

he was a player that so many good things were said about. i saw him play with the u21's and i was impressed. hopefully he gets a deal quickly.

Surprised he was let go tbh. I though Mick was a big fan of his. Anyone know the reason why or was he just not part of their plans anymore. (Yeah, like McCarthy plans anything :p )

I think he is a good player but possibly not up to Premiership standard? Although I said the same about Lee Carsley this time last year.

i should also point out im glad he proved me wrong, its a pity hes not playing itnernational anymore.

Thornton has ability and looks a very classy player at times, but Im not sure about his attitude. He has been in and out of the team on numerous occassions.

On a side note my girlfriends brother saw him leading the charge when a group of Irish lads got into a fight in a bar in Basel for the Swiss game, again indicating that his attitude might not be right.

I played with Sean for years, surprised to see that mick isn't keeping him on.
I heard Leeds were interested in him?

He's on the transfer list so I wonder how much Mick is looking for. Supposedly a twat. He was called up to the U21 squad to play Israel but didn't bother turning up because he was on holiday. FFS Paddy McCarthy cancelled any holiday he had because he was on standby for the Ireland squad.

Mick used to get in at 8 every morning and give Sean a one to one training session so I'd love to know why he's selling him. I'd love to see him go to Malaga. The finished 10th in La Liga. The beat Seville, Santandar and Sociedad in their final 3 games. Its either them or the English championship.

PLayed with him myself at Bohs, bit of a big head at times, but he was always a good player so thats understandable. Got himself involved in some less that "professional" stuff since he went to Sunderland, a move is just what he needs.

Mick McCarthy didnt do half as much as people think for the chap either, or so his Dad has been telling me!

my last memory of sean thornton is the rap he done in the dressing room after sunderland went up. cringeworthy!

Thats reason alone to stck him on the transfer list. Any player who raps should be fined a month's wages. With the *possible* exception of John Barnes in the Anfield rap. :o

A timely reminder to people discussing Ireland's future prospects on this thread

Not every good prospect will become a top quality player
