    Hi,
A mate needs to get a Win98 boot floppy for his sisters comp. Is there anywhere you can get the files, instead of having to get someone using Win98 to make one for you?
    Cheers

HA HA, Windows 98.... HA HA. Windows 2000 will run well on most older machines. I have it running on a P333 with 192 megs ram.

aye but it is less responsive, takes longer to boot (unless you have a nice HD) and wont play dos games.

I'm sure they'd be happy to upgrade if you would like to pay the Microsoft tax for them.

If they are happy with Win98, why pay to upgrade to 2000?

Doesn't Win2k do a nice boot disk collection totalling 5 floppies?

Win98 is the only way to go in terms of a working dos boot disk imho...

As to why upgrade? Win2k\XP tend to crash on me about once every few months, Win98 can crash every 30 minutes, I've never seen a 98 install last more than a day, I've seen XP run happily for 30-40 days non-stop (although it does slow down to be fair...)

when XP/2K blue screens when you start up in safe mode, it's enough to make you cry

Win98 is quicker to repair/replace/backup/restore - You can boot up into Dos and run restore your system files with ERD/ERU - it's on the CD. You can use Lcopy to copy files to/from a folder in DOS inc long file names etc.
