It's a horrible place. Please tell me you are not staying there for long. It's just full of casino's. nothing else. Plenty of pawn shops too. I spent one day there doing a bit of gambling and I couldn't wait to leave. Free drinks though if you are playing the games.

Drunken fool has it down to a T. VinnyL must have some weird mates. 18 months, ouch. May I suggest you leave whenever you are not working. It's a short drive to New York from there. That's where we came from.

    Thanks everyone.

Yeah , we plan to find a place to live in one of the surrounding towns about 10 of 15 miles outside Atlantic City. I heard some of them are quite nice. On our time off we have the choice of having Washington, Philly and New York within a few hours drive.

Looks like we will work in Atlantic City and play elsewhere!!!

    Anyone got any more advice??

i lived there for a few weeks when i was 17, i cant remember anything to recommend. it seemed like a soulless place. there (hopefully) might be some other nice towns/resorts around it.

We used to work on the coast as students. I think it was a hours or maybe two drive to Atlantic City. Only ever was their very light at night. Just Casino's and cheap food and drink is all I remember (students eh?)

Yup... they pretty much said it.... Atlantic City itself is the pits... unless you like to gamble... I don't know if I would agree that it's one of the worst places 'this side of the pond,' but I would definitely not recommend staying there... there ARE nicer places around.... I live about an hour from Atlantic City(right outside of Philadelphia), but am down towards the coast often... I work as a flight nurse on a helicopter and we fly patients all the time into Atlantic City Medical Center(EXCELLENT hospital) plus I go surfing all the time in Ocean City, and actually have rented a house for the first week of september there... so if ya want, I'll show ya's around a bit and we can drink a few pints... here's my home email addy: jordanryan@comcast.net

some other places to stay not too far from Atlantic City: Brigantine, Longport, Egg Harbor Township, Margate, Ocean City, Galloway Township, Tuckerton..

STAY AWAY FROM: Pleasantville(there is nothing pleasant AT ALL in P'ville)
