The qualification tournament for the next Cricket World Cup starts in Belfast in a weeks time.... moving to Dublin for the semis and finals a week later.

How will Ireland do? Will they qualify for their first World Cup? Can they win the Trophy?

They should do. A very sharp operation these days. However, we do tend to slip up whenever we are posted with the favourites tag

Hopefully get to see a couple of the knock-out matches when they move down South.

I'd tip them to top Group A and after that it can be a bit of a lottery. Is Ed Joyce gonna be playing?

Winning the trophy is very much a secondary issue. They simply MUST qualify for this world cup, and I can see them doing it. Hope the weather stays dry for it, a lot of rainy days could turn the whole thing into a lottery.

    Here's the full squad list:

    Jason Molins (capt), Brondesbury
    Andre Botha, North County
    Jeremy Bray, Clontarf
    Gordon Cooke, Brigade
    Peter Gillespie, Strabane
    Trent Johnston, Clontarf
    Ed Joyce, Middlesex CCC
    Dominick Joyce, Trinity/Merrion
    Kyle McCallan, Waringstown
    Adrian McCoubrey, Cliftonville
    Paul Mooney, North County
    Eoin Morgan, North County/Middlesex CCC
    Naseer Shoukat, Rush
    Andrew White, Northamptonshire CCC

With that squad there's no reason why we shouldn't qualify :)

It's good to see so many from the LCU on the squad too :)

He is staying on to help Ireland qualify first, this article says he qualifies to play for England next Friday

Ireland have a pretty good chance - They've certainly improved a helluva lot in the last 2 or 3 years, and hey, with Ed Joyce in the team anythin's possible :D

Gonna need a bit of luck and good weather though.
    Fingers crossed.

Yes I think weather will be the key, as the fine spell has ended in the thundery breakdown and the long range forecast is rather unsettled as a result.

And they got there with 3 balls to spare. Sets them up nicely.

As long now was the week up north goes well and quailfy for the World Cup, I hope they can then concentrate on the trophy in Dublin.

    Scotland 253/8 (50.0 overs)
    Ireland 255/8 (49.3 overs)
