I just got my Griffin iMic today and I have to say it is the handiest little gadget! It's so easy to connect up as it's just a USB cable and gave me really good sound quality when moving some classic vinyl tracks to my iBook.

I've just finished a year long sound engineering course and was cursing my iBook for not having any audio inputs but the iMic is going to save my life :D

I've not had it long enough to give it the full thumbs up but I think I can comfortably recommend it for anyone who wants to put their own audio on to their computer or if you want to tranfer things you have on vinyl, cassette or minidisc.

Sorry I took so long to reply but my poor laptop is borked, the logic board has gone west and can't be fixed for 2 weeks due to lack of parts..I'm so sad! :(

Anyway, I got the iMic from the irish apple online store and it arrived 2 days after I ordered it. It cost about €33 euro.

It's basically a little circular device that has a usb cable out of on side and 2 minijack inputs on the other, on for line and one for mics. there's a switch to change between the 2.

It also comes with a little short cable that has phono inputs on one end and a minijack on the other which lets you hitch it up to record players etc through phono cables. The only thing you need to get yourself is an xlr to minijack cable for connecting mics into it.

Oh and the whole thing comes with the software Final Vinyl, which is a pretty basic audio package for recording but it does let you edit and it has a pretty comprehensive eq section.

Thanks for that, pet! I was breaking my neck for something like that for my Powerbook as I DJ and I use it for a lot of music playback etc and the built in jack wasn't able for it, but you have solved any AV problem I ever had in one post.

I hereby owe you pizza :D
