Wireless router -> Eircom router?

    Would there be any problems if i stuck a Linksys WRT54g into the back of a standard eircom adsl modem/router and shared the internet through that setup? I'd prefer to do it this way rather than buy a combined wireless adsl modem/router, simply because the WRT54g can then be reused later if NTL was gotten, or IBB.

    Anything i should know before i buy the Linksys?

    It will work fine. I use a seperate Belkin Pre-n router for the better range & speed. If your using port forwarding it takes a bit of setting up..

    I suppose it would be best if i set a DMZ on the eircom, and just pushed all traffic into the Linksys to be nat'ed there. That'd be best methinks. I assume it does have that option?

    i have a wrt54g too, its why i'm buying a second one :p Its for someone else though, and i don't know what options are on the Caymann router thing that eircom supply. If it has a DMZ, it's all easy.

    Even if it doesn't, i suppose i can just make one port forward to forward EVERYTHING to the WRT54g. Just wanted to be 100% sure it'd work. I was 99% sure. I'd hate to feck something up on someone else. It always makes me nervous buying for other people.

    Thanks for the offer though, and enjoy oxegen, ya lucky bugger :p

    Youd need to set the Netopia to "bridging" as far as I know. This will shunt all traffic straight to the linksys. Then set up the linksys to send that traffic on its merry way.
