Playing in the westwood last night. made it to the final table. were down to nine and seven get paid and a 300 quid ticket to the big race week tournament.

I have about 100,00 and am lying about 5th in chips. im on the small blind.(blinds 5000, 10000). Get dealt pocket tens. Player in mid position (very loose) raises to 50,000 (he has a stack of about 150,000). i know the big blind is going to be all in because he only has about 8,000 left. I reraise all in. the big blind calls as expected while the player in mid position thinks about it and finally calls.

He turns over A2 while the big blind has JJ.

the player im mid position goes on to fill the straight and takes it all down.

Should i have waited knowing a few more hands will see me in the money and with a ticket or should i have made the re-raise like i did?

depends if there was another short stack about to go out. Still though you were comfortable enough so I definitely wouldn't have pushed. There was a chance of the BB going out so you would have only had to last one more player. With a set prize structure like that you should have just folded unless you had the nuts. Im sure another shortstack would have gone out soon after. There were 3 more stacks smaller than yours.

What would you have gained from winning? you didnt need all the chips so why did you risk it? 10s would have been a good hand to call the BB with but when the other guy called you should have let them fight it out. I would nearly fold Kings or Queens here if you really think theres a chance you could get a ticket without winning another hand.

    Unlucky by the way..

Were all seven prizes the same?

No everyone got a ticket from 1 to seven. after that it was 3000 for the winner and down along to about 250 for 7th place.

Unless this is a flat payout structure (which I don't think it was) you did absolutely noothing wrong. The iniital raiser was a poker idiot. Against his range it was absolutely the right play. The only thing you did wrong was not bend him over the table and pull the golden horseshoe out of his ass before moving all in.

In that case you did right!

I dont think Id call him a poker idiot, his raise was too big initially but once hes made it 50k he has to call for another 50k.

Oh yeah he had to call the all in but 5BBs with A2 from MP for 30% of your chips?

Yea doesn't look like you did anything wrong. You re-raised to isolate the loose agressive player knowing that the BB will call anway with any two cards. At worst you are a 52% favourite against the raiser as it it unlikely he has an overpair given the raise.
Given that this appears to be the typical final table structure where even in mid position you are short stacked with 10BB you got to play your good hands agressively. 10s is probably the best hand you are going to see at the final table so against a loose raiser you want to re-raise and make him pay for the chance to outdraw you.
