    I'm running a power book 15" combo. It's about 14 months old and was upgraded recently to 10.4, it's been running fine since I got it and again no problems after the upgrade. But suddenly it's stopped letting me log in with one of two problems;

    1; It doesn't get as far as the log in screen, and a message comes up, looks like terminal or dos, it refer's to kernal debugging and remote debuging
    2; I get as far as the log in screen and either it freezes when I try to log in or a message comes up telling me to restart.

    I've tried bootign from the 10.4 cd to do a clean install again it tells me I need to restart or else it just doesn't see the cd.

    Any suggestion's???

    I take it you're holding down the C key to boot up from the CD ROM? Apologies if that's obvious but you never know.

    The other thing to try is to hold down the control key on startup and that'll give you the option to start from whatever system(s) it can see. It can take a while to see the CD drive though. If it can't see the CD either your drive is on the blink or the 10.4 disk is shot(more likely). If it's a copy of 10.4 and not the original(not suggesting for a moment ;) ) that could be your problem too.

    If you do get it to see the install DVD, then first thing you should do is run the disk utility and repair the disk and permissions. The second thing to try would be to reset the password(s) for the user(you) and see if that clears up the problem.

    If that fails then format the drive in disk utility and do a completely clean install. When you do get back up and running may I suggest downloading the 10.4.1 update(the standalone one if possible, not the software update one) and repair your permissions before and after you run the update.

    Hope this helps
