Diaspora - Elite type game (Java)

    I have come across an exellent FREE Elite type game on-line. It is Java based but is Browser independent (I Know, I know...but it is still a "Browser" game I think as it does not have its own dial-up faciities and is written in Java).

    Go to Disapora to download the Game (and Patch). Then get trading and when you get money or a good ship KILLING.

    Travel: Initially trade is in the "GEN" Zone where attacks are not possible, but to progress you have to venture in the "Neural" and "Velic" Zones. Planets are fixed and Navigation is by fixed points in space (like Master of Orion).

    Missions: Like Elite there are missions you can do for experience

    Ships: Ships to buy and outfit of many types (plans purchased from different planets). You can also keep more than one ship at your base.

    Money: trade and bounties

    Alliances: "Guild" system, each with its advantages and enemies. Players can set up their own guild.

    Lives: If you are killed you can start off again with everything minus your destroyed ship and cargo (and some ships are mega expensive).

    Combat: Ship to ship. Good mix of jump timing and ship configs wins the day.

    This game has the advantage being impossible to cheat at (a la Planetariaon), real time action and you don't need to be on-line 24/7 (game saves at last planet visited.

    If you are interested in playing then download the game and post here to say you are up. In the Game look for "Narazin" in the message system and we can link to convoy on missions (big advantage). I can also post what I know so far of the games rules here to get you up and running.

    I played it around 6 months ago, was fun at first but quickly got boring, plus the server crashed a lot back then :/

    Servers are behaving and a patch download from the site seems to keep things ticking over. You are right though about geting a bit boring, but if you are into fighting or are playing with mates its pretty cool (and unlike others games you don't HAVE to log on every day, just when you want to).
