I think he might be more than a millionare.

Isn't he worth something like $42 billion?

What's the point in being a billionare if you aren't going to be Batman anyway?

    Edited :)

Would there be any danger in getting a wealth cap on anyone with over 2 billion and giving it to poor people. surely anything the want they could buy for 2 billion.

I don't know. What if he wanted to buy 2,000,000,001 $1 burritos?

With all that money... you'd think he could afford contacts! :D

Tour / article needs more actual photos and less computer imagery "mumbo-jumbo" (... yes, that is a computing term!..)

Think a few peopl emight see it as unfair if they imposed a limit on how much money you can have. It would be robbery to be exact. Plus once someone reached 2billion they would stop. No one is going to keep putting effort into earnig money if its going to be taken off them.

I don't think he has 42billion in cash. It's all tied up in busineses and stuff.

If I was him, I'd flog everything, and get all the cash, stick it in some Swiss bank, and watch the interest roll in.

Buy a nice island, with a hamuk, and drink pint bottles of bulmers all day, and listen to music, and eat curry all day long, everyday. Now thats livin'

I think he's worth more, assets included.

I saw a report a while ago that claimed he could sell everything, put the money in the bank, and earn €50 mil a day in intrest.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.

I was told that there isn't enough printed cash in circulation in the States, for Bill Gates to with draw all his money!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Apparently most of his wealth is in Microsoft stock, rather than being "tied up" in material assets or sitting in a massive bank account somewhere.

Ingvar Kamprad, the guy behind Ikea, is actually richer than Bill Gates.

I think you can put alot of it down to the weakening of the Dollar in recent years. I'm sure keeping all his money in Switzerland helps too.

Oh well... He was richer last year. He was on $53 billion this time last year. Losing $30 billion in a space of a year? That's pretty careless. I get mad if I lose a €20 note... this guy must be fuming.

On Secret Life Of.... , one of those VH1 shows (and i'm sorry I couldn't have been a better source!) it said that apparently Gates is only leaving 0.02% of his fortune to his children. He's giving the rest to charity. Fair play to him! I know he's already given over $1 billion to charity. And its not the usual American charity, like Make a Wish, Young Negro College Fund, or Help the Homeless, his charity fights AIDS in Africa.

And his personal wealth is unknown but is estimated to be much more than what Forbes quotes! This is Good!

Oops! The clock has stopped working but this is good also! Here

He apparently overtook Gates after Forbes did it's calculations for 2004. This is the only link I can find at the moment. But I read it in a good few newspapers last year.

Oh, none at all... It's probably all marketing spin from Ikea anyway.

I don't get the jibe at the end of that article "If you think about it, Microsoft and IKEA are not terribly dissimilar. Both companies sell mass-produced gear that requires a lot of assembly and attention.". Whats the joke?

The IKEA bloke was discounted when it emerged that the company is owned by some collective trust and the cash/assets/stock weren't his to count.

I passed by his house once in Seattle (dunno if its his current house or old one or watever), but god damn it was big. The gates were absoloutly massive and had about 5security men standing outside em

There's an element of estimation in all these valuations of course - most of the list would have substantial investments in other companies and they aren't telling.

Larry Ellison was ahead of Gates in the estimates a few years ago as well for a while (in between lists around 2000 when Oracle shares took a massive upturn for a while). For the unaware, all the Waltons in that list are the inheritors of WalMart (wife and four kids). As you can see Sam left them all an equal cut.
