I'm looking at getting a sound card that will give me decent gaming sound (6.1 even) but not burn a hole in my pocket.

I need enough outputs for sound to my headset (5.1) and a coaxial digital out for my reciever (6.1) and a mic in.

Got to be pci not external.
Im not sure what to look for in a soundcard other than the in/out puts i need.

might as well save a few quid by buying the bulk version though...

(or you may even be able to find a refurbished model going cheap on creative.ie)

    Cheers for the replies.
I looked at the creative but i doesnt have coaxial output which i need to feed sound to my reciever. I dont think my reciever takes spdif, Marantz sr5400 (mine isnt the ose version but spec is the same) .
What about the 3rd here, is it a good card? Or the first one here?
I'll try have a look for some other cards at lunch if i get a chance.

Youre not gonna be playing games with surround sound if you buy anything other than a Creative card. Sad state of affairs but it's the situation. All the games use EAX, EAX 2, EAX 3, or whatever other proprietary junk Creative signs them up for. You're tied into buying a Creative POS nomatter what if you wanna game

Had a look on some sites, not much other than the whole creative rang :(
If i get a new sound card, will i have to disable my on-board sound? I was thinking of i got a creative i could use that for gaming and keep my curent on-board coaxial for movies etc. Will that work or is it the one or the other?
