Probably one of the TD's going to open a friends coffee shop or something like that.

Either that or they finally found WMD in Cork.

As is mine.... They practise there all the time. A bit too close for comfort some times.

    They sure can!
Their stall speed would be much much less than the cruising speed of a cargo plane so they'd be safe enough.
(If they couldn't fly slow they make couldn't land safely).

I'd imagine that they can just fly a weave pattern if they're escorting a slow plane over ireland

Saw a C-47 flying incredibly low over my house recently (about four weeks) oddest thing was we live in Laois and it was following a trajectory absolutely no plane has ever followed over our house (a lot fly over we know whether its Shannon or Dublin their headed to at this stage) was cool but weird.Must have been travelling to this airshow or something similar, no fighters though.

I was working in a office about 15 miles away from Heathrow just after 9/11.

Every Friday at around 11am Concorde used to take off on and go supersonic. I've never heard anything as loud in my life. It sounded like God was slowly tearing the sky apart. We'd go out to the car park and Concorde would be this tiny little triangle up in the sky making a *huge* amount of noise.

    Yes
Phantoms can get down to 150Mph
    Eagles down to about 80Mph

No idea what the Russian Su27 or Mig29 can go down to but they can both get damn close to standing on thier tails.

On the other hand the original U2 spyplane at it's working altitude had top speed of just under Mach1. The stall speed was only 5Kts slower. If you turned too fast you could have one wing tip shaking because it was going through the sound barrier and the other shaking because it was stalling

did the cargo planes have straight wings (300mph) or were they angled back (500mph) ?

The current 'planes used by the Irish Air Corps could, if pushed down a hill with the wind behind them or if towed by a Skoda.

They could not keep up with many of the faster cargo planes.

They used to fly over the Spa Hotel in Lucan a few times (on Friday evenings), from South to North. Don't know where to/from (location), tho.

It was a C130 (not ours, we don't have any) with 5-7 of the Air Corp Pilatus Turbo Prop Trainers(ie. not jets...eh we don't have any Jets:D ) flying in a tight V formation right behind it. Flew Right over my house in Bray twice in the space of 20 minutes this afternoon. The reason being the same reason the Red Arrows flew over Bray a few weeks ago. There is an Airshow in Bray in August and both the Red Arrows a few weeks ago and the C130 and Air Corps today were doing the flyovers for promotional purposes.

The Red Arrows flyover was on a very wet overcast day and there was no-one on the Seafront to see them. That was a pity because even though they were only in view for 10 seconds or so it was mighty impressive. 9 of them in a really tight V with the coloured smoke trails flying from East to West over the Seafront really low and then climbing and banking to the north over the west of Bray/Enniskerry while still in the tight V.

Luckily today was a beautiful day and there were plenty on the Seafront to be impressed by the C130 and Air Corp flyover. The sound of all those Turbo Props was impressive never mind the formation flying.

Can't wait for August but tbh if the weather is good I don't ecpect I'll get to see much, if any of it as they are expecting 160,000 visitors to Bray that day if the weathers good and it will be all hands on deck for any retailers near the seafront. ie I'll probably be working my ass off!! :D

lets hope that airshow is on a weekend so all the dubliners out for the weekly binge drink on the seafront can't get out to bray.
