The lens on his Xbox is probably dirty. Try using a DVD player cleaning kit.

I got a dvd lens cleaner for my xbox, but the xbox still doesn't read the discs. Would the lens be broken or damaged. If the lens is damaged, how and where do i fix it.

See if somebody locally is selling a broken xbox with a good drive and put that in it or else ebay

Yup, petes right, the xbox is simply a pc in a really ugly box, an so is modular, its jsut a matter of opening the machine, taking out the ropey drive unit and putting in the replacement which you sorce from the interweb thingy or get someones busted one and cannibalise it.

I have a similar problem, my xbox won't even recognise tdiscs. It just says Open Tray. Anyone have any idea what causes this? I have tried it with different discs. :(

i have the same problem but it does load after a while....keep opening and closing the tray and it'll work eventually, maybe manually rotate the disc every now and then too.....

You probably need a new laser.

think there is a bit more to it, you have to read the firmware from the old drive and flash it to the new drive,

op just play a music cd for 5 mins then try playing a game, buy a hard drive and copy the games too it

Had this problem twice so annoying, Just brought my console back to where i bought it and got a refund... If your console is still under your years gauarentee you can bring it back and get a replacement or refund.

After the refund go buy a new jasper model, you will have no problems anymore with those!

Had this problem and xbox support sorted in 5 minutes. I cannot recall the exact sequence of steps needed to rectify it, needless to say it is a software thing not a hardware thing. I recall it involved wiping the cache, changing the system settings to load the game in the drive on startup and.......not sure what next, but it worked and is still working. I thought I would have to send it back. Give them a call.

Haha I wish I did that instead of taking mine apart about 6 months ago was the worst decision ive ever made broke the warranty seal put a working xbox drive into it. The xbox then thought it was a dvd player so I had to put the old drive in and the same problem persisted so then I blew it up at halloween:p.
Obviously I bought a new jasper model ages beforehand so I was happy gaming away and quite enjoyed destroying the broken xbox hehe:D
