    Hi Folks,
I'm looking to buy a Mac, but I'm not sure which one to go for.
I think I'm on a limitied budget, mainly because I don't want to be saving for too long.

That's why I'm thinking about a going for a Mac Mini. All the advantages of a MacOS, for about half the price.

But then, why buy new? Why don't I get a second hand one from ebay or something like that?
If a get the Mac Mini, I'll be able to buy the other Mac parts later, thus not spending all my budget in one go - I can use a PC monitor, mouse and keyboard in the mean time.

Then there's part of me that wants to save for ages and get something like a 20" iMac, but then I'm thinking that I might save up about 3/4 of the price, and blow it on something else instead.

I'd mostly be using the Mac for graphic design work/photoshop/web design and maybe for use with an iPod. All of the above, I can do on a PC, as I'm doing now, but, well, I just want a Mac, even if the sexy monitor does have to wait :-)

So folks, what do I do?

    Cheers,
    S.

Im not so sure about buying a mac mini for work such as graphic design. I am a designer also and SHOULD by right have a PowerMac (funds v.low) but I opted for the nxt best thing the new IMac G5 20", it is absolutely amazing, and defineately worth holding out for. I reckon with a mac mini you could be waiting quite a while for opening large high resolution files as im sure you are aware of.
Although the mac mini is great, it really depends on the sort of work you need it for. Perhaps it will get you thru until you can afford a Powermac / Imac.

Hope this helps. (i reckon if your chosing mac, you should wait until u can afford the one u want as it will be soo worth it when u get it)

You may as well save for the iMac, the new Intel based ones will be out next year sometime.

personally i'd go for the mini, slap in a bucket of ram and a decent monitor and you'll fly along.

personally i'm using a 12' powerbook (i need the portability), but when i'm at home have it hooked up to a Relisys TL795RU TFT and it's gorgeous. If i didn't need the portability i'd buy myself the mini....yes it has its limitations but its hard to argue with the bang you're getting for your bucks!

Can't argue with this logic. If your looking for run of the mill use, the Mac Mini with RAM is a no brainer, possibly only an eMac coming close to it for cheapness. If you want Power above all, you would probably know about a G5 Dual Processed Tower and a good monitor, but for home and ease, iMac or Mac Mini rule ok; your monitor making big differences.
