When getting a new car if something can be fitted by the dealer rather than the factory (as the factory will take 6-8 weeks) is a dealer fit ok? Its for parking sensors.

As far as I know dealer fit after market items are only covered by a 12 month guarantee, not the car manufacturer's warranty. Ask them about this.

Fit and finish from the factory is usually better as quality control is more stringent.

factory fit all the way. with all due respect to anyone in the motor trade, there are some cowboys out there.
in a factory the quality control dept. would be far more picky not to mention the fitters far more careful and experienced.

That is true but there are also people highly qualified to do these jobs, alot of tow-bars are fitted on cars before valeting by an outside company, and alot of pieces are fitted by the dealers mechanic, so in alot of cases what people would think are factory fit are actually dealer fit. Also it would be easier to trace down the person responsible for a fault or bad fitting.

if its plug-n-play, ie the wiring loom, dash is pre wired with quick connectors for the addition, then either place should be ok.
If manual splicing, ripping in wire bundles behind dash, etc is required, then i'd prefer the factory did the job, not your average idiot from the pen-knife, wrap and electrical tape brigade.
Unlike fitting alloys and hitches which are mechanical, some expensive smoke can be generated with a minor short.
Someone reported the ECU for a crd Pug @>$1000

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

It's worth mentioning that after sales (dealer) fitting does not attract VRT, so it is a lot cheaper
