Lump on Nose Piercing

Got my nose pierced with a ring at the start of April. Seemed to be fully healed about 3 weeks ago but then got slightly infected. Now that the infection has cleared there is a small hard lump above the piercing which sometimes scabs over a bit. Just wondering if anyone knows what causes this or how to get rid of it?

    Id appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

I agree... sounds like a nasty little infection and since it's been nearly 3 months (so it should have healed pretty much by now, shouldn't still be getting infected) your best bet is a doctor

Out of interest, where did you get it done

I would advise to go to the piercer that did it, or failing that go to Snakebite, they are always good for advice that goes beyond myth.
It sounds like you may have a keloid which is a form of scarring, but best to have the piercer check it, if necessary they will send you straight to a doctor.

<edit> here is a link to some information on keloids http://risks.bmezine.com/?Keloid
have a look and see if that is what you are dealing with.

    Thanks for the advice.

Got it done in Snakebite so i'll head back there when I get a chance. Is there any treatment for these keloid things without actually taking the jewellery out?

Hot saline compresses, and rub vitamin E oil into it a few times a day (you can buy that in any pharmacy).

TBH your chances of getting rid of the lump will be much better if you take out the jewellery. I had to do that to get rid of the keloid on my scaffold.

I'd say hot saline soaks....whether it's nose piercing or not, it's not gonna be healed after 3 weeks, whether it looks like it or not....just do hot compresses and if it doesn't go to snakebite,.....i bet it will though!!

Yeah dont want to take it out unless its completely necessary, I can suffer a while more of it looking bad rather than abandoning it completely. Hope your right about these hot saline soaks working.

do them twice a day and don't stop just cos you think it' s healed..you can cut down after a while.
its a common thing, people thinking piercings are healed after a couple of weeks, just cos they don't hurt any more.they stop taking care of them and this happens!
also, it might be better if you put a stud in, instead of a ring until its healed!
