If you have an eircom line which hasn't been enabled for a while can Smart enable that line themselves and then put broadband on it or would we have to pay Eircom to re-enable the line first?

I had to get eircom to enable the line. Was free though. Special offer.

I would be intereste in knowing if it is possible to use a previously active (but now inactive) eircom line which passed eircoms line test.

I know the old phone number if that helps. It seems strange that smart would require you to have an eircom line when they don't use any eircom equipment.

    Exactly. They want your business.
They just happened to be running a special offer at the time.

To unbundle you line, you have to have an eircom account number. AFAIK

Yeah we we have the account number. So the line doesn't have to be currently active then?

Plug in phone, dial 199000 ,

    1. does the system speak back the number you know ?
    2. does Smart have that old number on their database as a pass ?
