very nice, I like, but many would be turned off purely cause of the badge on the front which is unfortunate cause they really do look nice imo, although one of the pics looks like a photochop

Cannot see the coupe-convertible selling in large numbers. By their very nature these cars are aimed at a certain type of owner so I cannot see most potential owners looking beyond the badge snobbery.

The SUV should sell well though just as Hyundai do with theirs.

not bad at all, i think the new octavia will be a success yet again like its predecessor. watch out for all of the older ones been bought and used as taxi's

Yes badge snobbery is a problem, however I'm a fan. I really like the cars. The cc might not sell well because that really is a premium sector type car and the people who buy cars like that want to have a pose factor which a skoda badge may not give them.

The 4x4 however, could be a big seller. I mean if people buy lots of Santa Fe's and Tucson's and other such SUV's, people will realise that the Skoda has VAG mechanicals and would be a good buy. That alone could life Skoda out of the dark ages.

The Octavia has already lifted them out of the dark ages and it sells well for a marque that some people still think are dodgy cars.

they need to target the mothers/fathers who do the school run and the weekly shop - that is were the Sante Fe, Tucson etc are used and bought for primerily

Yes I agree, what i meant though was and I know it wasn't clear, but adding something like an SUV to the lineup would greatly help Skoda banish the badge snobbery that exists, so that not only a "certain type of buyer" would actually buy the car. So that it won't be frowned upon as much by others. The Octavia sold in massive numbers and is a credit to Skoda. The new Skoda is a fine car and is a wise buy. Let's hope they keep it up. A stonking 200bhp RS is what we need!

They all look really cool, but Im not a huge fan of the first one (the cabrio), Id really like to see the CC model in production here, it looks really sporty!

Though as some people have said already, many people still have issues about Skoda being dodgy Lada-like car makers that are anything but trendy. So they might have problems selling especially when a skoda badge is smacked on the front of these models.

Aye. However the Skoda cabrio is still be a badge too far ;)

Snobs are seriously over-represented among cabrio buyers. How often do you see tops down in Ireland? A true cabrio driver has the top down most of the time :D

Yeah!! what is it about cabrio drivers that they don't use the roof!! Over the past few weeks when we've had the nice weather, only about 1 in 10 convertibles had the roof down. I mean, why!?

I used to own a 206 CC 2.0 (the man's version of the car with the real engine - yep you'll all disagree, but I loved it) and had the roof down at every opportunity, even sunny days in the winter. Turn on the heating and away you go. I loved the open top driving experience. Alas, I had to sell it for a lovely diesel to get sensible, buy a house and get married.

is that the one with the two poodles up front.

haha.....yep, but I gave them the septic tank and dropped in a gorgeous blond. It's not the trendiest of cars but when I got it, it was one of the first in the country so I thought it was cool back then. The 2.0 gave it some cred in my eyes only probably, but I loved it. I wouldn't buy one again though. They are far too common and almost noone would spot the difference between the 1.6 and the 2.0 so what's the point.

Plus the suspension is too stuff, they rattle left right and centre, the roof leaks, theres no boot space and you can't fit ANYTHING in the back seats (apart from a bottle of wine in the cooler).. although the other day I did see five girls crammed into one going shopping, looked hilarious.. legs and arms everywhere... god knows where they put the bags.

Edit.. on the difference.. the only thing I could ever spot was the slightly larger exhaust pipe (oval instead of circular on the smaller engine)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭AlanD

I must say, mine never rattled, never leaked and I found the boot huge! The way I worked it was that if I was just driving around there'd be nothing in the boot anyway, so it wasn't an issue if the roof took up most of it. if I was driving off somewhere, the boot was big enough to car the golf clubs and all my gear. But if I was driving off somewhere and it was a scorcher, I'd pack only enough to fit in the boot while the roof was down. Simple!

The 2.0 also had a larger "mouth" on the front bumper. They all have the large mouth now, but at the beginning only the 2.0 had it. The 2.0 also has a slightly different rear bumper and that oval pipe as you said. The 2.0 also had 16" multispoke alloys as opposed to those 15" propellor style alloys which are too small for those massive wheel arches.

This is so far off topic! The skoda cabrio/cc wouldn't sell, but the SUV would in my opinion.

I'd have the SUV, and would never ever ever ever buy a Hyundai (though i'd buy a Kia Sorrento, bizarrely). VW don't make a Freelander sized SUV so as it would be a Golf on big wheels...

And the new 3-series will have a CC as well!

I don't know about them, the new Octavia just doesn't do it for me, in any guise. It's not badge snobbery because I was trying to persuade my dad to get an Octavia RS 2 years ago but it was too small. I'd by the Daewoo/Chevrolet Rexton over the SUV and if I had to buy a convertible which I'd prefer not to with the loss in stiffness I'd buy one with a cloth roof such as an old 3-series or A4 Cabriolet or something not "prestigious" like the Fiat Barchetta

Are they concepts only at this stage, or are they ready for release?
