ATR reduces Irish racing coverage.

Much as it appeals to us on here, it seems that Irish racing cannot command sufficient viewership figures to justify coverage. As of today, ATR will "pull" coverage of any Irish meeting whenever there are two UK evening meetings on Sky.

The first victim is Kilbeggan tonight, followed by Friday's Limerick fixture.

At least the racecourses won't suffer ............. the courses concerned will still recieve their fees from ATR due to contractual issues, and will also probably benefit from a few extra bodies thru' the turnstiles.

I won't miss these meetings to be honest, they are a minefield for punters and unless you have some vital information about one of the runners, they are best left alone. Thanks for that post though, I had been noticing a slight negligence of Irish racing on the station recently and wondered whether something like that had been announced.

Thats not the point though A, well at least i dont have to be having a punt when watching racing.
B, surely it was good for adertisers to have live coverage
C, Maybe at the races are a victim of their own success too many races.

That's a very valid point. The three most valuable races on tonight's Kilbeggan card are sponsored by the private sector. I'm sure Bank of Ireland (sponsors of the 2m3f handicap hurdle) would be inclined to reconsider their future support if they cannot get exposure to a television audience however small................ especially in the UK market where they are keen to establish themselves.
