Really short IDE cable

Does anybody know where I can get a really short (preferably 30cm or less) IDE cable (preferably ata100)?

I'm making a Linux pvr, and i've a mini-itx board, slimline cd-drive and a 3.5 inch hard drive in a very small case. Which doesn't leave me much room for cables :) I can't fit rounded ones in as there just isn't enough room and I can just about shoe-horn one normal length and one unusually short flat ide cables in but I can't picture any air flowing.

Perfection would be a 20cm flat ata100 cable with only one connector for a HD not the usual 2. I've checked all the tech sites I can think of and can't find anyway. Anybody have any ideas?

    thanks,
    Greg

You could get a 3 header cable with two of the headers at the right spacing and just cut it down to size with a scissors. Try an old cable first with the drive manually jumpered to master because leaving cable select would probably mean you've only got the slave header left.

Allcables in cork street could make up one for you too.

Now that's an interesting approach. I don't need to have the other wires I truncate terminated or anything? Would it matter which of the three headers I chop? E.G. if the two that normally attach to drives are the perfect distance apart can I cut off the one that goes into the motherboard?

I'm guessing no as those two headers aren't really connected to each other but to the motherboard header instead. That's just a big mad guess as I don't know how ide cables are wired.

Thanks a lot for the idea, it sounds like a plan.

And here's a handy guide to shortening an ide and eide cable. Thanks again .

I think you have to keep the motherboard header but I'm not sure. However the IDE connectors can usually be opened and moved to another part of the cable. They are just pins which punch through the plastic to the wires beneath.
