Not sure if this is the right place to post this but....

I'm looking to get a phoneline into one of the back rooms in the house without having wires running across the floor. Is there something I can by to transmit it wirelessly? Does something like this even exist? I've definately never seen one around the place

well a standard telephone is powered from the line itself, so there's no way to transmit that power, im presuming the line is needed for a pc/fax connection and a standard cordless telephone isnt the answer your looking for, but if its for an internet broadband connection you could just pick up a standard wireless dsl modem and a wireless card for the pc, but that'll cost a bit more than a few metres of cable.

Just beware if you need to use the extended phone line for a dial-up internet connection. I'm pretty sure I've read that these extenders have VERY limited bandwith.

I presume it's grand for ordinary phone use, though.

*shrug* I dunno, just came across it on the front page of the Maplin site earlier while looking for something entirely different :)

it would be probably be as cheap and more reliable to run a small multicore along the skirting board or the edge of the carpet to the back room, i understand that the question involves you avoiding doing it this way but ive heard that there can be lots of faults with those extenders that run through the mains cables.

I know a guy who has one of those OneForAll extenders. It's relatively ok, but can be a bit unreliable. AFAIR, it can only go as fast as 33.3kbps, though he was only getting 28.8kbps. I'd agree with Sparky S and say go for a cabled solution. It may be hassle now, but overall probably less hassle than the extender (and the chances of the extender working with broadband are near nil I'd say).

Thanks for the replies. Yeah something like that is what I'm looking for. Its for a fax machine for that room. I've got a rubbish net connection anyway (only about 26.4k) so it wouldn't be much of a problem having a low bandwidth like that.

that one for all extender is completely unsuitable for anything except voice calls
