Well I as always have to go against the grain I love the CLS - saw a black amg version a few weeks back and I was enthralled.

The new S class looks bad from the back - I see some rolls royce and BMW 7 series influences there - not good :(

the s class looks crap, the cls 55 amg is nice but no other cls.they were all called back by merc for problems in it.sowhy would u buy a merc if it has problems.over 1.5 million cars were called back at start of the year.

The only merc I would consider buying was a clean used (new type) SLK - preferably in black

An SLR wouldn't go astray either!

Looks very like the previous S-Class. And some people slag Lexus for making bland designs...

Looks lovely in the dark colour, but the bright colour really shows up those arches, which are a bit too WRC for my liking. (Not that there's anything wrong with that. On a WRC car.)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Those arches are horrible

I'm disgusted really. I love the looks of the current model, hated the previous model

Agree with Adam that it's not as pronounced on the dark colour one, but still...
Well I as always have to go against the grain I love the CLS

I love the looks of the CLS too. The brother in law will get his in a few weeks - I shall take it for a spin so :)

Safety: Brake Assist with radar and latest-generation PRE-SAFE®

In the field of vehicle safety, Mercedes-Benz is redoubling its commitment to accident prevention with the preventive system Brake Assist PLUS. This system registers vehicles ahead by radar and gives a warning if the gap is too small or the closing speed is too high. If a collision threatens, Brake Assist PLUS calculates the ideal braking assistance in fractions of a second and makes this available immediately – even if the driver applies too little pressure to the brake pedal. This significantly reduces the incidence of rear-end collisions. The adaptive brake light, which warns following traffic by flashing during emergency braking, also makes a major contribution.

Mercedes-Benz combines Brake Assist PLUS with the equally unique occupant protection system PRE-SAFE®, which offers even more safety functions on board the new S-Class. PRE-SAFE® recognises potential accident situations as they arise: if braking deceleration exceeds a certain level or a skid is imminent, the system tensions the front seat belts as a precaution and inflates air cushions in the multicontour seats to envelop and support the driver, front passenger and rear seat occupants. For the first time Mercedes-Benz has also integrated the side windows into this preventive protection system; they are automatically closed when an accident threatens.

This combination of the new Brake Assist PLUS system and PRE-SAFE® is a further enhancement to occupant protection. Mercedes-Benz is the world’s first and only vehicle brand with a comprehensive safety system of this kind, which already goes into action before an impending accident.

Read all about it at 4car

    http://www.channel4.com/4car/feature/preview/2005/mercedes-s-class/2006-s-class.html

    here is some more technology...

Then there is Distronic Plus, which also uses radar to keep the Merc at a safe distance to the car in front. It will automatically brake the car to a standstill if necessary, and then accelerate back up to the selected speed when it's clear.

Even more high-tech is the night view assist programme, also new to the S-Class. Based on infra-red light, which is invisible to the human eye and won't dazzle oncoming traffic, two infra-red headlamps illuminate the road, extending the driver's range of vision to more than 150 metres when on low beam. The idea is to make pedestrians, cyclists, parked cars and other obstacles visible much sooner than with headlights alone. An infra-red camera mounted on the inside of the windscreen records the reflected image of the road ahead and displays it on a dash display. 4Car has experienced a similar system currently used by Cadillac, and in that application, it works amazingly well.

Looks like a cross between a Mondeo and an RX-8 IMO.

Can't say I like it whatsoever
