    Hey all,

Just trying to sort out the specs for my new pc. I have been playing half-life 2 on a p4 1.6Ghz machine and i am sick of it. I have had the machine, a Dell dimensions 4300 for 3 years now. I've upgraded it along the way and it has 512 ram,a 40Gb(IDE 5000rpm maxtor) and a 160Gb(IDE 7200rpm maxtor) hard drives. Have a GeForce FX 5700 256ram video card too.

So here is what i am proposing to buy,i have bout €700 to spend. i dont need a super fast machine, jus one that will let me play Half Life 2(and other new ones) well enough to enjoy. Want the pc to be able to survive few years too.

Intending to salvage some parts off my old pc. Like hard drives, cd and dvd drives. Also i intend to use same keyboard and mouse, is this recommended?

Here is what i am looking at from komplett

I'd get a different PSU if I were you, Q-tec are cack, a fortron 350 or 400 would be grand.

[edit] beat you to it demon [/edit]

Get a different power supply, eg. 350w fortron. Qtec are the ultimate in ****e.

If its for games get an athlon 64 processor. a 3000+ would be good value, or a sempron 3100+.

ok cool, was thinkin of AMD but i have P4 at moment and am happey enough with it and never had problems.

So i only need a 350w PSU? Thats grand so.

Anywhere else i can cut costs?

Well the fortron will cost more if I'm correct, the "output" isn't necessarily the most important thing about a PSU.

Ye, i know what you are saying. Better a reliable supply of the same power. Jus knocked this shopping list up using an AMD, would this be more suited....

1St of all, stay welll away from Qtech as mentioned by everybody, I think you get the Picture they are POS, Dealth with them , Never again is all i will say.

2nd... Go Amd A64.. They offer superior performance for gaming..Get a 3000+ venice and some nice Corsair XMS 1Gb for 122 euro on komplett and OC that PC like crzy aswel of you like... But other wise u will get great gaming out of that. I strongly recomend that.

Not too sure a 6800LE is teh best choice though....There a bit limited in performace...

    Try this 1 also

Id agree with an AGP 6800 LE. You might get lucky and unlock the extra pipes / shaders and get it near to a 6800 GT. Worst case scenario is that it's still better than a 6600 GT. Do yourself a big favour and dont buy a pentium 4 for gaming, theyre cack.

or for 20 quid extra get the gt on jes, also this is a great case that comes with a pretty good psu, for a bit cheaper than the case and psu you're looking at

Would you be willing to seel your old PC??

    Thanks for all the advice.

The case with power seems like a great deal to me. Going to get that instead. Going to go for the AMD now too, seems to be the best for gaming, according to other forums too.

Would you be willing to seel your old PC??

Well i think i'd be able to use the parts better than selling it as whole. If i was to buy new harddrives. monitor and keyboard etc. it would cost me about 300-400 more.

How much would my old PC be worth anyway?
