    Hi,
    Trying to get a 2nd hand laptop for my girlfriend. Trying to work around a budget of 250euro. These are a few possibles from the Buy And Sell...any advice much appreciated;

    These ones I would consider if I could get them for 300;

    Compaq M700 Laptop.Pentium 3, 12gb hd, DVD drive, 700 mh, 256 mb, like new, pwo, €390

    Dell Latitude Laptop.Mobile Intel (R), Celeron(R), CPU 170 GHz, 542 MHz, 256 MB, of RAM Windows XP & Microsoft Office, ex cond, incl Dell case, €400.

    Laptop.P3, 1 Ghz, 256 Ram, 30 HDD, 14' TFT screen, DVD ROM, WIN xp pro, Office xp, Internet ready, good battery. #480
    (v.unlikely to get it dropped to 300)

    Laptop.Sony Vaio PCG-F707, Pentium III, 500MHz, dvd-rom, XP Professional, MS Office & Visio, Iomega ZIP drive & carry case, #400

    Laptop.Ultra slim, Mitac m722, PIII 700, 20GB HD, 192MB RAM, 12"" LCD, 1.2kg, 4xUSBs, firewire, infrared, PCMCIA, CD, leather case, #350
    (Looks like it only has an external CD drive)

    Whatdyathink!?
    Thanks v.much

    The best advice is to excercise great caution!

    S/h laptops are very expensive for what you get. I dont think it matters what model you get to be honest, just to make sure everything is ok. Its a bit like buying a car secondhand.

    If you could find another 200 you would be into entry level dell territory. If you keep an eye on the outlet you could get something cheaper. It would be much better than those machines which are probably over 3 years, and a bit tired.

    Not to say you cant get bargains. I picked up an IBM thinkpad once for free. It was 4 years old, and it lasted me through college. It still works!
