it depends. is it 7 pin svideo (probably a graphics card)? that causes problems. is it the one on the left or the right?

    svideo.gif

a standard 4 pin svideo (right) can be converted to a yellow composite (video) with this:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28733&TabID=1&source=17&WorldID=&doy=16m6
    standard svideo doesnt do sound

if its 7 pin, the extra pins arent standard.
on an ati gfx card, the middle one on the top row does composite. not the same for camcorders etc. you can probably get a 7 pin svideo to composite cable from http://www.svideo.com. make sure its the right one cos as i said not all 7 pin svideos are the same

the audio will have to be done separately with one of these in the speaker port

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1218&doy=16m6

or one of these to save getting a cable too

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31700&TabID=1&source=17&WorldID=&doy=16m6

you'd probably be able to get a cable that does 7 pin svideo and audio in the same unit from svideo.com

if you only need it once for a presentation or something i cud lend you my one.

probably no good. the 4 pin s video does luminance with the two on the left (one being ground) and chrominance on the right. composite is done by the top middle pin. not on the 4 pin one. of course that only applies to ati gfx cards. is it a gfx card or what is it?

Ya its a SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600xt I bought one of those convertors i just asumed i could use a four pin from the gfx card and convert that to composite.

ive never actually tried it myself but ive been told by ppl who tried it that it didnt work. you can always try it with the thing from maplin and bring it back if it doesnt work. if it doesnt this should do it:

    http://svideo.com/7pintorca.html
its fairly cheap. you definitely cant get any 7 pin stuff in maplin.

Dan, I have just had a bit of a check with the multimeter on the s-video output of my other Radeon (the 9800) and even though that card has a 9pin mini din/s-video the relevant pins for your job are still in the same position in the 9pin configuration as in the 4 pin connector of the lead I sent you. (I checked this by using the adapter with my MSI 9800 which has a 9pin to a 2way split adapter allowing the connection of standard 4 pin S-video or else Composite)
I am 99% confident that with the pinout of the 9600XT I sent you this is also the case, as Sapphire would be even more standard than MSI.
