Who's running this country I ask..the wealthy consultants in suits or the politicians we elect. They did a U turn on Prof Drumm's demands for the job. Talk about the tail wagging the dog........It's not as if the guy was offered a dud deal to start with...400k a year and still he wanted more. That was the govt's offer, take it or leave it. He chose to leave it, and what do them shower do....go crawling back with a better offer. Could you trust them??

Could you put up some kind of link in reference to the story you're talking about? A the moment it's just a bit of a rant.

Thanks a lot mate.I'm sure the average educated person in Ireland can grasp the concept of the thread. It's not rocket science and it was headline news in the Independent toaday.....Let's see if it takes off...

First blood to Harney's health chief

Minister backs down as Drumm takes over HSE supremo role on his terms

HEALTH Minister Mary Harney was forced into an embarrassing climbdown last night after she guaranteed the new head of the health service a 'job for life'.

Prof Brendan Drumm (48), a paediatrician in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, rejected the €400,000-a-year post as chief executive of the Health Service Executive (HSE) two weeks ago.

But he changed his mind after the Government did a dramatic u-turn. He received an assurance his 'non negotiable' demand to return to a top post will be honoured once his five-to-eight year term as chief executive is complete.

The average educated person in Ireland usually expects some form of structure in what they read too.

Read the charter in relation to posting about stories, you post a link, perhaps a section of the article (so people know what you're talking about) and then you can post your comment.
Given that the Indo is free subscription, it shouldn't be too much trouble for the average educated person in Ireland to sign up.

I can’t imagine its that easy to find someone with the right skills who’d actually want the job, so begrudging the generous remuneration package is petty.

Prof Drumm seems to be hitting the right notes to begin with. Hopefully he will be successful in delivering the reform he is clearly committed to.

THE TIME has come for everyone working in the new Health Service Executive (HSE) to realise the taxpayer is investing huge sums of money in the service and it must be spent wisely and productively, Prof Brendan Drumm said yesterday.

Prof Drumm (48), who will take over as head of the HSE in mid-August, said there needed to be a fundamental look at how the health service works and there was no point in administrators blaming doctors or vice versa.
