Help Targa Laptop !!!!!

    Hi Guys,

I am wondering if anyone on Boards can help me out. I bought a Targa Laptop from Lidl this week and am having a problem with the TV Card provided with it.

The TV CARD provided is a Traga card however it does not fit in to the PCMCIA slot on the TARGA Laptop. Something appears to be blocking it from going in to the slot properly.

I have tried the Targa TV Card in two Toshiba laptops and a Sony vaio and it works fine however something is preventing it from fitting correctly into the Targa Laptop i have.

You are all thinking right that means there is something wrong with the laptops PCMCIA slot however other PCMCIA cards work perfectly in the Targa Laptop I have.

I rang their technical support in Germany and they are suggesting that they collect my Laptop and my card on Monday 20th June and whisk it away to Germany for two weeks to have a tinker with it.

Im only after getting it I really dont want to send it away.

This is where you guys might be able to help I am wondering

Did anyone here on Boards buy one of these Targa Laptops
    this week in Lidl ?

Does your TV Card fit correctly in to the PCMCIA slot ?

If it does would it be possible to meet up somewhere in Dublin before Monday so that I could see if your card fits in my Laptop.

Then I will know for definite its the card and not my laptop i need to send to Germany.

I can meet where ever suits.

    Cheers Guys ;)

P.s Any other suggestions to how else i might solve this problem are welcome.

I bought the LIDL laptop and I had no problems with the TV-card. I used it to capture some video from a VCR and it was fine most of the time.
I am in trouble with it at the moment as I just installed Norton Internet Security and it has pretty much stopped working.I can't do anything with it,it has slowed down to almost standstill.
Is that tech support number on the User Manual?I can't find it anywhere, probably 'cause I am so mad right now.

Theres your problem right there. If I had a cent for every thread post on problems with NIS.

Well a friend of mine has a Targa and he installed NIS on it and it was fine.
I have it on my desktop and have no problems either.
I'm going to try and uninstall it from the laptop, but it will take all day to get to 'Add or Remove Programs' at the rate it is running.
Sorry for hijacking your thread scribs.

Bloody Norton Internet Security, what a heap of junk!
Just uninstalled it (at a snail's pace) and everything seems to be back to normal.
Problem is now how do I protect my system?
I could just install the Anti-Virus component of NIS but maybe that will screw things up all over again.

scribs i have an old tagra laptop , it came with a convert from PCMCIA III to II
so try hitting the eject button for the PCMCIA slot a sleeve thing should come out take it out and try your TV card again.
Or it could be that you need to use the converter

Theres lots of threads on AV solutions. I'd suggest using Freeware AVG+Zone Alarm and the usual Adware, Spyware apps. Thats good enough for most people.

I'm having the same problem as scribs with this laptop (trying to fix it for a family member).

Anyone have any suggestions before I tell them to send it back to Germany to be fixed?

If the card wont go in is it because some sort of plastic or metal fringe in the slot is blocking it?

Yeah, a German friend of mine is always showing me the german lidl site and their weekly offers are always cheaper by far for almost everything.
I'm not surprised to see a €300 difference.

You might not buy it, I certainly wouldn;t buy it, but they're pretty much guaranteed to be sold by the end of the day.

They're produced in Germany? Germany has lower sales tax?

the price difference is more than likely VAT, or duty. we have one of the highest VAT rates in europe.

it may also be the fact that these machines are manufactured in germany, so they don't have to pay any import duty in that country. the same would go for a lot of the other products they sell if they're manufactured in the same country as the shop.
