You do have to upload a small amount to download, and you do have to download a small amount to upload, but if your figures are way off what you're expecting, you may be hosting some nasty malware / virus / something else.

What kind of figures are you looking at? And do you download a lot of stuff? Large files include linux distros, video files, etc.

Ok thanks Khannie that is what I was asking, I managed to download 6.50 gb this month according to utv but i could only account for about 3.5gb
( i download everything into a download folder and so can check it from there)
but my laptop is new and i have avg and stufff?

Regular browsing would account for a large amount too. Image files, etc.

Also, there's email, email attachments, etc.

If you downloaded 3.5 gigs that you can account for, then 6.5 isn't a /huge/ stretch of the imagination.

I'm not sure what exactly you're driving at, if its bit torrent: yes.

TCP/IP in general requires traffic to flow in both directions for uploading or downloading. When you download packets, acknowledgements are sent back to the sender's computer as a form of flow control.

Edit: doh, all of the above posts were posted while i was afk

Personally i'm confused by the title. What the hell does that mean?

"Id you have to upload to download to you have to download to upload? thanks I am just"

C'mon, if you're going to ask a question... make it a question! Not gibberish!

That's a rather grand scale of time to be juging your download and download over the net require an upload on. Anyway all tcp/ip packets sentences better. Each annum?

WTF? You taking the piss out of the original question reactor? Or did that just get mixed up somehow?

s/he's banned now anyway. Previously chillipop according to the admins. Not sure what chillipop did, but it must have been bad to warrant a "no questions asked" ban like that.
