Straight Question.. Do I have a hope at 22 for getting insured with classic insurance? Car will be my only car, so no secondary car deals.

I don't think so - the principal behind classic car insurance is that you have to have another car with an ordinary policy as your everyday car and use your classic now and again on nice days etc.
I know there was some talk of some insurance companies taking on classic car insurance without requiring another everyday car but I personally have never come accross them

You can get insured on a single classic car with First Ireland, but you have to be over 25. That said, it's not all that cheap.

I'm 25 and they wanted about €1400 a year from me to be insured on a 30 year old Mini or BMW 2002. Strangely an MGB GT was more even though it's a lot slower than the BMW. I thought classic car insurance was meant to be a lot cheaper than regular cars :)

It's ended my dreams of driving a super cheap to insure classic car...
Now I'm looking at Nissan Figaro's again.

So basically, no I don't think classic cars are an option for you (or me)

If you could get a Figaro in manual I'd be sorely tempted. I think they're full of character.

    They're full of women. ;)

    But they are distinctive.

I'm on a first Ireland sole vehicle policy, the mileage limit is 10K. The policy is €850 per annum for my 3 litre V6 scimitar. I am 35 and had to proove 5 years no claims as a named driver. My mate is with them too is 33 and drives a MK1 Consul his policy is a few hundred cheaper cos it's a less powerfull machine.
€1400 a year seems an awfull lot for a BMW 2002 or mini, ring them back and try and suss out if it's your age or driving experience that is making it so dear. Often you'll get a different quote from the same company with the same details. Does anyone know if any companies accept motorbike / scooter / campervan policies as a second policy?
