I've recently moved up to Dublin for the next year as I'm on co-op at the moment. One of my intentions is to start playing a nice bit of live poker, possibly starting with tonight in the Mayfair with the €30 freezeout. My question is this, I'm a young looking 20 year old student, will membership be granted to me if I do show up to these places unshaven and dressed normally?

yes there is no dress code as far as I know. I have never had a problem anyway and im the same age as you. Jeans and a t-shirt seems fine

You should see some of the guys that play... some of them look barely out of nappies!!

You should be fine, I think its 18 in Ireland anyway.

They let Rory in last night, wearing white (I think) runners! So they'll obviously let any scruffy ne'er-do-well...:)

yeh jesus, im from the heart of the northside, im lucky if i even have clothes to put on. I usually rob clotheslines and that. I was lucky yesterday in that somone had conveniently left a pair of runners tied together by the laces on some power lines...

if they let a scruffian like me in everyone has a chance!

PS ill take any old clothes anyone isin't using anymore....

Oi Rory, they were my bloody runners only left them there for all the sprinting I planned to do last night up and down those stairs.................
I do have a lovely black skirt and nice stillettos that Im finished with which I am sure would look greaaaaaaaat on ya!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

    To the original question:
The casino's want to be seen to take in well dressed and well heeled individuals who give the lovely ambience and surroundings a feeling of well being, the bank manager on the other hand strongly suggests "if they have money under no circumstances should they be turned away from the door".
It is a loose rule, if the front of house staff think that some one is a risk due to drink or attitude or whatever they wont get in, but generally for the Poker room, casual is ok.

Hope that helps, have to go look for some new trainers now,,,,,,,,LOL

    Byyyyyyyyeeeeeeeee
