Yeah, so far a bluetooth adaptor, hard drive enclosure, kensington lock, usb pen drive, SD cards and more. All brand new, all much cheaper than they woulda been in a bricks'n'mortar shop AND cheaper than online stores.

Just make sure they have good feedback and take PayPal ;)

    It is what it's.

I've bid on a rather sweet graphics card ! 50% cheaper than Ireland !

I heard a rumour you get nabbed for VAT on gods from outside the EU?

I got an Ixus 50 last month, no problems at all. Came from Hong Kong in less than a week! €360ish for the camera, a 512Mb SD card, a case, and a second battery. It's €500 for the camera alone in shops. I hadn't and trouble with VAT, the seller marked it as a gift. Would recommend it, just watch out for delivery charges which can be a bit high.

I've bought the following hardware on ebay:

    2 graphics cards
    1 processor
    1 gig of ram

All no problem. The ram didn't arrive, but I got a prompt, no questions asked, refund.

I'd suggest bidding your maximum bid in the last minute (you may not have to pay it all). That's when all the activity happens. Anything before that is just pushing the price up IMO.

Note though, that return of (for example) a graphics card will need to be sorted out through the manufacturer, not the supplier. This often involves registration of the product.

Don't leave it too close to the end though, cos if he has a maximum bid, it will auto-bid for him up to that maximum. I recommend about 5 mins before the auction closes, then start your bidding.

Also, as him to mark it as a gift, or as low value- like $25 or something.

as I'm a complete noob, when the bid is accepted whats the next step? I mean for payment ?

Most sellers accept paypal (http://www.paypal.com for more info)
You have to wait until the auction is over to make payment.
Send seller an email asking for total price (including postage) to Ireland.
Pay using paypal - ask seller if they can mark item with low value or as a gift (so you don't get nabbed by customs).

TmB pretty much has it covered there.
You should have a Paypal account. If not, set one up. You'll need a credit card.
Then, since you won the auction, click "Pay for this item now"(or something along the lines of that).
You then enter your paypal ID/pass.
Put in the amount you want to pay( which may already be calculated).
Then you'll get your receipt in e-mail.

Drapper: Ive gotten loads of stuff off ebay over the last few years(from the US and Ireland). I have to say, though that an awful lot of people wont ship to Ireland. This is especially true for cheap techie gear. Like that GFX card. I usually drop the seller a pm asking will he ship to Ireland and how much extra. Some sellers overcharge way too much for shipping. I once was asked to pay $27 for shipping a SIM-card!

Also, buying off the ebay "stores" or "power-sellers", while extremely reliable, is a way to get charged extra on VAT. 9/10, the seller wont fill out a customs form when exporting to ireland. But the larger stores and users will usually do this. This means that you can get charged extra tax on your purchase. To avoid this, just message the seller before bidding on the item.

Also, bidding early on an item isn't always the best idea, as you will drive the price up. I always wait until the last 10 seconds of an auction before placing my bids. As do a lot of "serious" ebayers.

I'll chat you some more on xFire about it, if you want.

shhhhhhsssssss its a really dear card ;-) !! 20min until end of auction

10 Seconds is too late. If the other bidder has a higher maximum bid, it will take you more than 10 seconds to bid enough to win the item. I say about 3-4 mins, and enter a "higher maximum bid". that way if he decides to wait for the last 10 seconds, he will lose.
