Just curious as to this train in the mornings. I have a few questions.
    How packed is it?
    What's the fare?
    Is it reliable?

its usually fairly packed but that sgould ease up for the summer with the majority of students and schoolies finished, the fare is €1.80 single and i think €3.20 return, i usually buy a 5 day pass, on a normal day you should be in conniolly from coolmine in about 25 mins, so it beats the crap out of a 37/39 bus, its basically on time every morning and at least you know then exactly what time to be in coolmine station for, and you have a much more civilised clientelle on the train over the bus, i know its a little more expensive but the saving to your sanity is tremendous :D

I find the 7:54 to be reasonable wrt being packed.
I stay clear of the 8:18 because I find that one jammed.
The 8:36 is similar to the 7:54.
You won't get a seat, probably ever.

On the way home the 17:49 is quite jammed, like the 8:18. The 18:17 is like the 7:54 and the 18:57 is nicer again.

BTW, the electronic ticket machines in the station are finally working. They give change and, while not quicker than the staff (who preprint a lot of tickets to speed things up), if there is any sort of queue they are.

If you have a Palm or a Pocket PC you can download the TrainSched app I cowrote. See link in my sig.

I get the 7:54 each morning too - train is on time 99% of the time, I'm normally at my desk in the IFSC by 8:25... I think its great. Never a seat of course. There is supposed to be a new service starting fairly soon which will originate in Clonsilla, so that might help things...

Part of the Dart upgrade work was to alter the signal and points clearances at the through platforms in Connolly to allow 8 car trains in the platforms without fouling the other lines.

This allows Maynooth line trains to access platform 7 in Connolly without interrupting through Dart traffic. There will be paths for extra trains to/from Connolly only, bypassing Drumcondra.
