do i need the firewall?

i keep getting a popup asking me to update my windows firewall or something, i dont understand it exactly, should i turn it off? how do i do that? thanks!! :) :)

You need a firewall, yes. But I wouldn't rely only on the Windows one, download and install something like ZoneAlarm.

No make sure its switched on if anything.

Go Start -> control panel -> security center and make sure windows firewall is switched on.

Then look near the bottom for an option Manage Security Settings for :

and click on Windows Firewall on the dialog that pops up make sure its set to the Green Shield/On option.

(Unless you have another firewall active - Im guessing unlikey )
