:p €3200 yoyo's on something your not formiliar with! im no expert either but my guess would be you could get a nice system for ~€2000 and give the other 1200 to charity ;)

thats a serious amount of cash to spend on a computer. alienware are expensive anyways and you pay a good bit for the case.

i thought i was bad spending ~€1850 on this

How much *cough* neatly swallows tongue. In saying that its got a Quadro mmmmmmm........... thats a major lappie for some major grunt. Those programs are killers, hope this is comin outta someone elses pocket. Check the specs below. At least 1.5GB RAM eek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gif what, drool
    Pro Tools
    Premier Pro

Dont know if they are the correct versions for your programs so thats the first thing you need to check. Quadro is a very powerful card, also look for FireGL and check with the manufacturer nVidia & ATI if there cards will work your programs, they'd know as well.

are you sure you need the Quadro FX....those things cost a ****ing arm and a leg? I wanted to get one for a laptop a few years ago and it would have cost me an extra €750 over the normal decent gfx card

Why get a laptop as opposed to a desktop. Especially if its a 17 inch monitor gives the impression you dont really care about portability. A desktop would be a lot cheaper and easier to upgrade if required.

No, I would not advise it unless - you are a 2d professional and need the spec - and even at that it seems over priced

    great, thanks for the replies,
that hP pavilion looks good, ive seen another couple of nice ones too.
Does anyone know of any smaller screen more lightweight laptops that would still be good for video editing..?
    thanks again

The hard drives are slow on those machines.
If you're going to be using it for editing, I would suggest a 7200RPM drive.
100GB versions will be available shortly, if they aren't already available.

You'll need lots of RAM too.

i dont have mine yet, im waiting patiently on it :) reports are all good on ferrari's. it's a good powerhouse that copes with anything mixed with the small and light factor, but not an ultraportable.

the price is what puts people off, also the ferrari logos for some. but cool feature like the slot load dvd drive, carbon fibre lid, bluetooth carbon fibre mouse, etc is what i like about it. the main selling point i suppose is the 64bit turion and x700. it's not the best out there if thats what your looking for but it is the best in it's class considering it's size and weight. i cant resist those seductive looks.

it's not available yet but should be within the next 2 weeks im told. if you buy it, get it in the uk as you'll save a bomb.
