I think out of all of them, my favourite is the episode where the Harsesis Child shows Daniel what would happen if he gave him the genetic knowledge of the Goa'uld. I can't remember the exact title of the episode right now, but it was a good one.

I'm also very fond of "Full Circle" because Anubis goes crazy and blows up everything. Ironic, considering the following episode was one of my least favourite. After "Emancipation", of course. :)

The episode you're talking about is Absolute Power. Terrific episode up until Daniel wakes up, I thought.

I loved Full Circle right up until the very end, which was a bit lame (at the time that was going to be the last ever episode of SG1!!!).

There have been so many good episodes at this stage that I couldn't name a favourite, I don't walk the show as religiously anymore either which makes it more difficult.

There But For The Grace of God
    Secrets
    The Fifth Race
    Serpents Song
    Fair Game
    Nemesis / Small Victories
    The Other Side
    Between Two Fires
    Summit / Last Stand
    Smoke and Mirrors
    Meridian
    Changeling
    Prophecy
    Full Circle

They'd all be up there :)

good choices and I know it is hard to choose between them but who can
ever forget Tel'c in jodpers on astroturf in front of the stargate with a spalding bag
and a driver or Jack's imortal line " hey you know that we come in peace bit.....bite me "

We've nearly 200 episodes set in the Stargate universe - somewhat difficult to choose :)

But one of my very faves is one I watched recently - 'Forever in a Day'. Not sure if it'll crop up on many people's lists here because it's very low on action. What is done very well is everything else: probably the most beautiful episode in the show in terms of cinematography and editing. The sweeping sands of Abydos looked gorgeous at Sha're's "funeral" for example.

What was also great was the acting and characters. Everyone's relationship was spot on. Daniel's drive to find Sha're being re-evaluated and discovering his own inner strength. Carter's face touched by tears as she sees a deadness in Daniel. Jack's disdain of Rothman and delight when Jackson returns to the fold. Teal'c's attempts to try and cultivate an apology and trying to understand how it's done on earth. Even Hammond's turning down of Jackson.

It also has wonderful lines - Daniel's touching words at Sha're's funeral. A bit of the great Jackson/O'Neill humour in the "Deja vu" "Deja vu" "Deja vu" joke.

And one of the most poignant and teary-eyed scenes in the franchise's history at the very end.

All brilliantly done and a good example, to those disdainful of sci-fi, that Stargate can also do excellent drama and character pieces.

Clearly you have given this episode some thought and I happilly
agree with you , sometimes people forget that one of the things
which has kept Stargate running as long as it has is those wonderfull
characters and the entricate relationships they have with each other,
as in last nights episode on Sky 1 was the Abyss. A wonderfull example
of the great chemistry between Jack and Daniel, Jack looking to die
and Daniel trying to help him ascend " do you think the Asgard named
a ship after you because it was a cool name?"
With episodes like these it is easy to back to them time after time.

For me it has to be Unnatural Selection, the way that SG1 betrayed the one replicator that was helping them in order to ensure that there mission succeed. It was one of the morally greyest episodes and all the better for it.

The episode also gave the replicators personalities without detracting from their menace.

Yes but 5 was ultimately unstable as was Reese and Jack could see that hence the call but it was only a matter of time before they had to give the replicators a voice
and the best one was replicator Sam, espicially when Daniel got the upper hand on her
    in Lost City pt. 2

But Replicarter wasn't in that episode. She appears first in 'New Order' in S8? But she only appeared then. Maybe you mean 'Threads' :S

I was watching Season 5 last night on DVD, and episode 5.21, where Daniel ascends, and Corin Nemec appears, struck me as one of the worst episodes.

Was there a guest director/scriptwriter or something, because the whole style of the episode was at odds with "normal" stargate

Regular writer - Robert C. Cooper whose been there since the beginning but the director has only 5 episodes to his name in SG-1 so maybe that's where it went wrong. It's still no "Emancipation" though...

"Forever In A Day" was pretty high on my list too. It was similar in a lot of ways to "Absolute Power" in that we see Daniel slowly but surely wrecking everything, and it turns out to be all in his head.

I'm also fond of "A Hundred Days" where Jack is trapped on an alien planet for what he thinks is the forseeable future. No real action, but an interesting insight into a side of Jack we don't normally see - his "home life".

quite true but isn't also true that every character has their own best episode ?
and correct me if I'm wrong here but every episode that Christopher Judge writes
features him getting it on with a beautifull woman ( Joleen Blalock anyone )
this definiately smacks of selfishness on his part....no ?
