My friend just got his new comp parts today, but the PSU has a 24-pin power connecter and the mobo has a 20-pin socket. I've heard you can use the 24pin in the 20pin socket once it fits. Problem, theres 2 capacitors in the way. Could I cut the extra 4 sockets off? Not fully, just far enough through the plastic so that they could be bent above the capacitors. If so, whats the best way to do it?

Yeah, no problem at all. Have done it myself on more than one occasion.

Yeah, no problem at all. Have done it myself on more than one occasion. I used a stanley knife that had been in a flame.

would it not easier to get one from England.

I had the same problem - couldn't get on in ireland !!!!!

Cost about €5 for the 24 to 20 connector

OK, got a standard steak knife, cut off the extra four, without damaging any wires. Works great.

are the extra 4 still usable?
you'll prob find that future (and current) mobo's will start taking the 24 pin connector.
my psu came with the extra 4 pins detachable
