Fm2005 because its a continuation of the old CM games you've played.

The new CM, isnt as good but has potential imo.

That said its a no brainer right now - fm2005

definitely fm2005, at the moment anyway, i cant see CM challenging it in the next couple of seasons, imo

Another quick question: the more recent CM/FM versions have been fairly buggy. What's the current one FM2005 like to play straight out of the box?

Are there any worthwhile patches to download? Where'll I get them?

    Ta!

Theres a sticky on this very forum, i advise patching to the latest 5.05

The version out of the box has a few bugs in it - a very big one with the irish leagues afaik (crashes when it gets to season 2 IIRC).

The current patch version (and i think its the last) is 5.0.5 available here

BTW its 80mb with the latest data and 37mb without.

As far as CM vs FM goes, have tried both and FM wins hands down. Basically all the game code went with SI games and went into Football Manager 2005. Eidos kept the license (the name) and so Championship Manager 2005 is a totally new game with all the implied bugs and oddities.

There's no game called CM 03. There was CM 03/04, that was the last CM as it was originally known, and before that was CM4. If you played either of them it wont be that different. There was quite a big change between CM4 and CM 01/02 though.

Ok so it looks like FM is the game I will get.A couple more questions whats latest version..?I dont what to head in and buy the game then a few weeks later a new version comes out.

Last question, the old CM games had some bad bugs is FM the same..?if so what updates will I need..?

    Thanks for your help.

The latest version is FM 2005. Which covered the season just passed 04/05.
A new game will be out around November more than likely.

There are bugs in the game, a big one affected the Irish league where the game would crash before or at the end of the second season, can't remember which. There were two main patches released and both can be found on the Sigames website. There's a sticky on the board with a list of updates and patches and the locations where they can be downloaded.

The new Championship Manager is beyond muck, I played the demo off of the Pc gamer magazine and I was lost for words with its shoddy coding, sporadic logic and bizarre match results. I've been playing the CM series for 8 years and Football Manager is the new king in my opinion, there'd have to be a total rehaul for the CM series to be restored to the greatness of cm 01-02.
