A marketing invention unless I'm mistaken, when did we have our first one ?

As someone said before, the mother will get a card, flowers and a meal out and the father gets a pair of socks and if he's lucky a card.

    Most likely a marketing invention.

I believe there's actually a fathers day gifts website somewhere too.

Not particularly a marketing invention at all, but as with most holidays really has become too commercialised altogether

yeah like every other "festival day" it has been commercialised to crassness. Still it does give me an opportunity to treat me father to a gift and give him a manly handshake without coming over all sissy, in appreciation for everything he has done for me... ;)

i asked the same question about daughters day and was told that every day is daughters day because they always buy me stuff and they always make sacrifices yada yada yada, so i stopped asking!

That is precisely the same answer I was given many years ago, only I asked about childrens day.

I was also told that every day is children's day.

I have a bit of a dilemma as my Dad's birthday is on Thursday and Father's Day is Sunday. So I'm thinking a birthday pressie then just a token for father's day? I think Father's Day is more about the sentiment and actually making him feel like a good father anyway!! Plus he's the hardest person to buy for, ever. Shoot me now!!
