My sister in teh UK has ordered me a FTV card, she then has to ring them back with a Digibox number to activate the card...... will these cards work with a Irish Digibox number or must it be a UK digibox number???

if you are a current sky subscriber in ireland then it will wipe out your sky card if you tell her to use the sky box . but if you are not its ok. make sure the telephone line is disconnected.

You can get them married to your own digibox even if you have a sub on it.
Then its a case of card switching.
Or you can marry it to a spare digibox, if for example you have a spare cable run from a quad lnb due to having Sky plus for instance.

Have the card in your digibox when your sister rings them and leave it in on say BBC1 for quite a while(24hrs)
You will notice that the card before it is activated will have BBC one London on 101 and it will have no 103 to 105.

You will know that it has been activated simply by noticing that BBC one London will have changed to whatever BBC region your sister is in and of course he ITV region will appear on 103.

You are talking silly. It will not wipe your Irish Sky card - when I subscribed to Sky, I happily switched between my FTV card and my Irish card.

Indeed. Like Tom, there are a pile of us here who do the switcheroo on a single Sky-subscribed box on a regular basis. The only thing worse than no advice is bad advice.

oops sorry guys. didnt realise but hey no need to be so harsh.. that is what I was told by someone so I presumed it was true.... they ask for the box serial number so if its allready using an irish sky card and they go to pair it to a ftv card wont they know?

ROFL - if you think that is being harsh.....

But in fairness, as Sceptre says - there is nothing worse than incorrect information, and there seems to be a lot of that around. Nothing personal, just setting the record straight. :)

They don't seem to check, you will be fine.

Ok guys thanks for that info, i was worried that when my sister got the card, and i used an irish DIGIBOX, when she phoned to activate teh card with teh IRish digibox number, they might tell her its for UK Digiboxes/users only...............anyone got a DIGIBOX for sale???..........lol

You could put a thread here looking for one.
We don't allow private sales or asking for to buy stuff here off other users.
You can link to a thread in your signiture

Eg: Wanted Digibox without card and use that as the text in a link to the thread.

You can create the link in the same way I did the "here" link to the for sale wanted forum above.

Just click quote on this post and you will see how to create that text link...just replace the here with "wanted digibox"

Do read the guidelines/charter on that forum though as they are very very very strict!!!

Same question, but just some clarification regarding this whole uk card thingy.

Im asking a friend to ring sky for a card. Then what happens?

    Is there any cost involved?

When she gets it and sends it to me, what happens then?

From the other post she'll need to know the serial number of the box is that all?

I have 2 digiboxes and have an irish sub on 1 the other has an old uk card, which gets me BBC on 101, 102, and all regional's in the 900's but no utv ch4 or ch5. Is it possible to marry the card to the irish box, and also use it in the other non-sub digibox aswell?

Im just confused as to it all, I never thought I'd go that uk card route, but now I just need some answers before I try it.

    Thanks to all.

    £20 sterling

Put it in your digibox it will initialise but will have a lot of channels missing-then ring her, and tell her to ring the sky FTV number on the back of your card, she will then ask them to marry the card to the box with the details you give her, she will need the number of the card and the serial number of the box.She can say she's ringing from work and that she left the card in at home with the box on BBC1 if they ask her to go to the box...(sometimes they do)
Leave the card in the box untill ITV 4 and 5 appear

Yes but marry it to the non sub box, the card will still work in the irish sub box.

    Thanks VERY much Earthman.

Like they say the wrong info is bad info, it's nice to ask a question and get a good answer.

    Thanks again.

    2 questions
    1. When people say FTV I assume they mean the FreeSatFromSky card?
    2. Is it just ok to have someone in the UK activate the card in their box? I was under the impression that the card did not marry to any box so even if it was activated in the UK box it could then be just sent onto me? Is that actually wrong?

the card can be activated on any box as none of the FTV channels are paired with the digibox

    Lots of questions:

Is a FTV card the same as a
"YELLOW HOUSE SKY DIGITAL VIEWING CARD"
    "ACTIVE SKY CARD,YELLOW HOUSE."
    0e_1_b.JPG

I assume you don't get RTE if you buy a UK card?
I assume I can't change the layout of the channels on the sky digibox?
If I buy one online do I still need to marry the card to my sky digibox?

    Thanks in advance.

ALL the working cards look like that!

The phone number printed on reverse is 08702 404040 for UK card or FTV

The phone number printed on reverse is 0044 8702 404040 for ROI Card

    No RTE.
    No marrying
    No changing layout
(But you can have a favorites EPG)
You get all these WITHOUT a card
    http://bytelive.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Free+To+Air+on+Sky

The card only adds C4, Five and Sky3

The cards remain property of Sky/NDS

Thanks for the info. Some observations regarding switching from FTA to FTV:

    Pros:
    3 extra channels.
A working EPG as opposed to the FTA EPG.

    Cons.
    Can't modify channel layout.
    Card lasts x years.
    Costs 50 Euro approx.

I think I'll stick with the FTA,I'm probably going to sell my panasonic sky box. Thanks again.

I am a little confused about all this "marrying" talk. BBC1,2,3 etc and ITV etc are all FTA now, take out any card and all these should be free. Therefor there should be no problem with using an FreeSat card that was activated anywhere in the UK as the Ch4 and Ch5 will work in any box along with the BBC channels which will work card free.

    Is this correct?

    yes
A FTV card has to be married to a box,any box to be activated properly-otherwise it wont have ch4 and 5 or sky 3 on it.
After that those channels will work with the card in any box.
