    hi

i have a pc with the following specs

    athlon xp 2800+
    312mb pc400ddr sdram
    abit nf7-s 2.0
    40gb ata 100 had drive
    120gb sata hard drive
    16x dvd rom drive
    16x dvdrw drive
    windows XP pro edition sp2
    nvidia geforce fx 5200 128mb

The system seems to be running a bit sluggishly. aside from the obvious things i have tried to make it run smoothly, is there any point in adding another 512 mb of ram to get a last wind under its sail ? would the difference justify spending money ? i use my machine for j2me development, web development, graphic design and multimedia tasks like 3d max and dvd authoring.

    ta

Absolutely. I'm assuming that you're on Windows XP.

if you are runing 3d max you be better off getting more ram for sure,

XP runs slow enough with just 512MB anyway

a Quadro be much better graphic card for video encoding, higher speed HDD can also help, depending on your budget!

    go to this site http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/
and download freeram. This'll show you how much you're using and also let you try and free some up

definately upgrade that ram! 512 is the min for XP, and those programs do hog ram. Wouldn't bother upgrading much else though, they all seem to be resonably good components. You should notice a huge difference when you put in the extra ram.

You could ditch your existing ram sticks and put in two 512 sticks to get yourself up to a gig, but that mightn't suit (depending on your budget). I think theres a gig of ram going for about €90 on komplett at the moment. Would suit you perfectly
