Wow how slow were the lions in that match, like watching blocks of wood.

It becomes apparent that Clive had a moment of uncertainty, with respect changing the game plan completely. Never brought Sheridan back on,never took Jones and Dawson off and took too long introducing Byrne?

Have to say was dissapointed in the way the game was played. Lions seemed to want to try match them in their running abilities.A mismatch from day one. By half time if they had changed the half backs with Peel's super fast delivery and Rog's pinning the corners and Shaw and O'Connel jumping the result would have been dractically changed.

On the flipside we now know that Jones isn't looking like the No.1 number 10 at all and Dawson and and Thompson shouldnt be near the Test team.Dawson made some very rash decisions and thompsons throwing standard was out the door.

Indeed! Dawson was predictably rash (playing the blindside stupidly?) but I guess the delivery wasn't exactly always there for him in contact areas and our many failed lineouts. O'Connell did a good job of making the best of them but as you say Thompson was left on wayyy too long. Peel has been much more impressive and wouldn't have minded seeing Jones playing some of the match alongside him to see what changes it would have made. Then again a change of outhalf could have seriously affected the game - as Carlos Spencer showed! He looks like a great catch for Northhampton.

Darcy also looked a little shaky containing his frustration and not thowing away penalties.

Would have liked have seen more ball for Rico Gear - at least for entertainments sake.

Out of the 3 teams fielded which do you think was the best? I loved watching the game against taranaki, but the fact is that most of those players will probably be overlooked because woodward likes bulk not pace. Everytime dawson had the ball in his hand beside him was forwards who were so slow, just contrast that with when horgan and murphy combined to create excellent wing play. Steven jones, although had it tough, had NO authority on the game whatsoever. There was zero positional play. The needless penalties drove me insane, darcy kicking and throwing people, richard hill just running into the side of the ruck when theres 1 minute to go. Gethin jenkins forearm smash under the posts, another stupid penalty. Brian o driscoll had no leadership qualities, leaders should be more vocal. Ben thompson, dear oh dear, every time he threw the ball far we lost it, then when he threw it close we took it no problem. Funny he decides to throw it far in the most important period of the game. I seen a bunch of pansies afraid to get into the ruck, i dont know how many times i shouted at the telly for some passion...I believe alot of players in that match lacked passion. Id love to see a more 2nd match based team, it didnt have all the star names but my god they could play rugby. Thats what im afraid of, i think names and allegiances will pick the team, not solely performances.

    Dear Unkie Clive,

please never let dawson play a match for the lions again. I dont know if my throat can handle shouting at him any longer.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Lol couldnt agree more with you & I was being given out to in a different thread for saying he was crap and that Stringer was better than him, anyway that aside Lions played crap today.

Wtf was Thompson on for? Jones couldnt find touch half the time and when he did it was only bout 10 meters ahead of him(RoG was really needed here) Saying that Thompson would of just F'd up the lineout anyway. They left him on for way to long, I mean when they finally brought Byrne on who made both of the lineouts work ? Not Thompson anyway ;P As for Dawson can you say dumbass? He kept trying to run with it. I mean he had one good break but to keep going down the blind side was stupid. Someone who hasnt been mentioned yet is White. He gave away so many blooming penalties by coming in from the side, and stupid Sheridan loosing the plot for no reason and limiting the struggling Lions to 14 men.

All In all they have to come a long way if they are to give the All Blacks any competion.

thompson will be a huge liability if he plays in the test team

and what the hell was dawson doing at the end ? perfectly set up for a back move and he decides to go blind side by himself ?

jones was muck, didnt impose himself on the game one iota and continually tried to run by himself instead of getting it out wide, maybe the managment should have switched it up sooner at hooker i think

anyway one defeat doesnt mean much on a tour like this its all about getting it right for the test series

In answer to BOD thing,i actually cant remember a time Jones gave him or D'arcy good ball.D'arcy looked very nervy but was all over the place in support. For a small guy he was hitting rucks harder than some of the forwards, still baffles at clives indecision.Just watched clips again and they really should have put Sheridan back on,before he was sent off he was mincing that front row - Jenkins did nothing but drop the ball and give away penalties. The likes of Corry i think was needed in the forwards,O'Connell didnt speak up enough, along with Owen.

The way things are shaping its looking like Cusitor and Peel have the scrum half berth between them and the out half postion could be down to ROG and Hodgson unless Wilko pulls something fierce from his ass. Shaggy and Murphy must play,Sheridan and Byrne,Rowntree,O'Connell,Callaghan,Corry,Owen....(maybe Hill, dont rate Moody that much) centres Ollie Smith and BOD.Pure pot luck if they dont good performances together.

Yeah i like Martin corry too, he looks like a true leader. Everytime i see jenkins play i think 'holy ****', scraping the bottom of the barrell. Hes not the best scrumager in the world and has sudden urges to just jump in, even if hes at the side. Callaghan was absolutely brilliant in the taranaki match, Filled me with such confidence when i watched him lead the mauls. I think wilkinson will start in the tests no matter what happens, cant see woodword dropping him. Shane williams disappeared the whole match, heard his name mentioned once of twice at the start then no more.

when horgan came on he had quite a big impact for those five minutes. IMO instead of taking him off they should've taken off el little welsh git, slid horgan out to replace him and bring darcy back on in centre.

Dawson was shocking. Stupid decisions been made all over the place. Penalties are killing the Lions also - dont think ocallaghan knows how not to give em away.

Bit harsh on O'Callaghan no? He's hardly deserving as the one to get picked out for giving away Lion's penalities.

he is fairly indisiplined o'callaghan and i think it could be the main point going against him making the test team

these southern hemisphere are alsways dodgy as **** though

Eh? Were you watching the same match as me? It was O'Callaghan that was pinged for fighting when in fact it was Grewcock that was the brawler!DO'C hasn't been bad at all in fact I prefer his dynamism to either Grew-a-cock or Shaw

Glad to hear someone else see DOC's good side. The other post made my doubt myself but now that I think about it I'd be interested to hear when/how he became so indisciplined.

We're talking on this tour so far I presume?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

I really think that DOC has made a big effort to check his indiscipline.
His previous hot head behaviour has made him a bit of a target for Referees and Touch judges, lately though he has been exceptionally well behaved unlike Quinlan!
