    Mike.

    I've emailed NTL in May, enquiring about ITV2's inclusion on their epg, but got the usual reply;

"Ntl is continually evaluating channels and deciding which channels to add to our
Digital package to offer the optimum balance of programming which will appeal to
our customers. We will certainly add these channels to our considerations, and
will consider them in future decisions."

If they are only adding ITV2, FX and Challenge to their considerations now, I'd hold little hope...

Well, is there not some sort of rights issue involved with ITV2? And besides, in the state NTLs cable network is in, I doubt they have very much capacity. They can barely manage to deliver just over 100 channels and broadband over the network, I can't see them adding any more without a drop in PQ.

    Same in Galway,

    We got (new this week)

    Living TV (124/125)
    UK Drama (151)
    Euro News (203)
    Disc Channell +1 (209)
    TVX (858)
    Godf Channel (816)

125/209 aint working yet, on the EPG, but no signal

I think gives us the full range of Dublin.

Presumably you're talking about Dublin? Don't know whether or not you actually work for Chorus, but you're making an awful lot of assumptions....

I'd have to agree with you there.

God channel - which religion is that ?

And what percentage of the population belong to it ?

    It's just an advertising channel.

    Just added this week

Euronews (exellent) and a bunch of music channels including Smash Hits. Kerrang, Q and The Box. I think we now have the full set.

It's a Protestant channel, but for Protestants who refuse to call themselves Protestants and insist they are [north American accent] 'Christian' [/north American accent].

Are the two sets of networks all the same now? - Dublin Listings

I think we're just missing Zee TV and Prem Plus (?)

    Mike.

Zee tv is an additional channel, I assume prem plus is too. I noticed last night (Dublin) that I have MGM movies, where did that come from?

It is called PPV Football on the EPG, but in essence it's only Prem Plus.

Galway has everything on the EPG cept 808 - Zee TV

Some of the +1 (Living/Bravo) have actually worked, but they are on the EPG.

Magic dissappeared for a few days when living arrived, but came back.

No, sorry, my post twas a bit unclear. What I meant was that the analogue channels take up nearly half of the 1Ghz spectrum on the cable, and there are still remnants of scrambled sky sports channels coming in on the cable too. Analogue channels take up huge amounts of space, so in order to be able to provide broadband too, it doesn't leave very much space for digital too.

    Eh I don't think so.
Sky Sports 1 was switched off months ago.

    Agreed.

If a cable system is capable of, say, 550 MHz, then it could support some 50 analogue channels. Given that there are only 17 analogue channels, that would leave 33 'multiplex' spaces available. There are currently only 13 multiplexes in use on NTL. :D

Don't forget they need capacity for broadband.

But anyways, sorry for my stupidity - I'll go and sit in the corner and think about what I've done :o

No problem. It isn't stupidity- all of us get confused at one point or another.
Just one more thing. The broadband multiplex only takes up the same amount of bandwidth as a Digital multiplex. Broadband upstream (from the home) takes up only a nominal amount of bandwidth also. ;)

Would someone please post a complete channel line-up for Waterford City? I was thinking of taking up NTL's super-duper broadband offer for new customers (free connection, first 3 months free, 12 months free basic tv) and getting the digital with that, but I was looking on the ntl website and they don't list half the channels for Waterford and Galway as they do for Dublin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

There's a thread on this board which lists them all off. You'll have to do a search.

    Mike.

Are you talking analogue or digital? They now have much the same digital line-up as Dublin, and the analogue has one or two more services than in Dublin. ;)

The digital. I was/am waiting for Smart, but if they don't announce rollout in Waterford soon I'll go with ntl. The possibility of getting the digital service for only a tenner a month (free basic tv for 12 months) on top of the bb sub was an extra incentive, but I felt rather shortchanged when I looked on the ntl website and saw most of the channels I was bothered about were only available in Dublin.

I was wondering if maybe somebody in Waterford could post all the channels they can get here. I guess ntl aren't too bothered about updating the website when they're due to evacuate soon (or have they already been sold to MS Cable Holdings?).

    Proper updated chan list here.

A lot of channels were recently added to the Wat/Gal line-ups to bring them in line with the Dublin service.

The ntl site is way out-of-date.

Indeed they already have, their website now carries a disclaimer that the NTL name is being used under licence and that NTL Group Limited don't have any control over the content of the website.

I emailed ntl to ask for an updated channel list, and their reply had that disclaimer tacked on. They replied the next day, however the list they sent me was out of date! (see attachment)

I went ahead and ordered broadband and digital anyway. Ordered Monday and having it installed Friday. I am impressed! They have definitely improved since I last had dealings with them. I suppose I should wait until it is all up and running before praising them too much though... ;-)
