right I'm thinking of buying one of these drives, but just have a couple of questions to ask before I buy.

I'm totally new to dvd writers, and I was informed this was a excellant writer. is this true? I know they made good cd burners (still have one).

What's the best media to use for dvd backup?

Is there any good software I should try before buying I have nero 6 would that be ok?

Or should I wait until drives become as fast as they can (ie cdr drives maxed out at 52)?

    thanks in advance for replies

    afaik thats an excellent drive,
for discs anything that uses the ritek g04 dye or taiyo yuden are best imo - wont matter too mcuh with a good drive.
nero 6 is all you need, besides dvd decrypterr, get it before it disspapears ;)

ahh cool i'll think i'll order one of these so, there isn't any new drives coming out in the near future that are like 20x dvd burners?

i don't really care for blue ray or hdd dvd (new formats) as i think they are well away from being affordable?

i wouldnt worry about it too much.
even 16x is mostly unuseable due to disc wobble at the higher speeds,
a 16x drive will hit 16x for a very short period of time on each burn

    i get about 10 - 12x average on 16x discs - nec drive / ritek g05s

id hazard between 5 and 10 minutes.

speeds tend to dip more than cds do so it can be up and down.

ahh that's grand so i was expecting like twenty minutes, maybe i'm still stuck in the days of cd writers with a speed of 4x.
