    Ive been told to set up an XP PC which is to be used as a catalogue for a library using IE, and its to be set up so when the PC is switched on, it passes any login parts and just goes to the screen and has no other options.

    I know ill have to edit the registry to some degree but Ive gone through technet, but to be honest, i dont really know where to start looking.

    Click start => run => "control userpasswords2"
    Then Untick Users must enter......

    You can right-click 'My Computer' go to 'Properties' and on the 'Network Identification' tab click 'Network ID' to run a wizard. It'll give you options about what type of network etc your on and give you the option of auto-logging in as a user. (this is for W2K, XP is similar if not exactly the same)

    A better option may be to download tweakui for XP, this'll give you the option of auto logging in aswell, and as a possible bonus I think lets you hide the 'Log Off' option aswell.

    (btw, a quick tip for finding stuff in technet, use google and put the word 'technet' in your query, it's much better at searching it, and you'll often come up with somebody elses site who's had the same issue and has a technet link)

    Ive set up the PC so that it autologs on as the appropriate username and password, using TweakUI and this link, but once youve logged on, youre not supposed to be able to log off and log on as another user, and i cant figure a way of doing this. Anyone any idea?

    In the IE tab in TweakUI there's an option to 'Allow Logoff', unticking this and applying prevents a user logging off.

    you need to apply local policy settings MS Site

    take care to only apply them to the user and leave the admin a/c open incase u need to ammend
    Also it might help to take a ghost of the PC every now and then as u can mess up a PC bad in here.
