Nah dont get EMG's. Get some seymour duncans. I've said this before, but you should get great clean pickups, you should be able to get your gain from the amp and not have to rely on the pickups. In my experience, active EMG's sound like muck on clean.

i agree but on high gain how would the emgs compare to duncans...i'm swaying towards duncans at this stage either way

The EMG's will have higher output because of the preamp. But if you get duncans you can always turn up the amp gain to compensate...

Duncans are cheaper, and sound better and they don't need battery power so you cant lose really with the duncans.

EMG's clean are incredible! Just listen to any Metallica recording since Justice. I can get lovely shimmering cleans from the EMG in my LTD. 85 and 81 is a great set.

Haha, i knew you'd say that! Well still... duncans = tone. The End.

I wouldn't advise EMGs. I had an 81/85 set, and they sounded like pure mud. I swapped them out for DiMarzios in the end, and have been MUCH happier altogether.

I might incur Feylya's wrath here, but honestly didn't like them at all. Go with the Duncans, or seeing as I'm the local DiMarzio pimp here, go for DiMarzio's!

TBH, my main criticism of EMG's would be that they're too clean at times. I don't know what happened with your EMG's Karl.
