I've moved this to the UCC board.. as with everything these days its hidden away under a few sub-headings, hopefully you'll get a reply over there! :)

i did it but left it after two years cos it wasn't for me. Quite a good course though.

Guess the question is what are you interested in doing, as I felt it was a bit narrow in its focus... but then I was very unsure of what I wanted to do then.

yeah elec eng aint easy. i feel your pain

not as tough as elec eng. It gives you more options than comp sci indeed but I'd be afraid of getting caught in the middle... not knowing enough programming etc.. to get real high-tech jobs, but being narrow enough to keep you to that field.

bis is a piss easy course. minimal effort will get you a h1 every year

the courses are boring as fk, with a few exceptions. it skims over a load of programming languages, not going into detail in any of them.

there is business courses thrown in too, which are easy, except for maybe business finance in 2nd year(which requires u to actually go to your tutorials and lectures)

internship in 3rd year is the best part, if u get a place in boston.

basically, its easy to do well in this course and get something out of it in the end(hopefully)

Depends on the person. I know people that would disagree with you. And it's not because the course is difficult it's because they have issues with reproducing crap in the exams and not being asked to think about it.

Their site would be a good place to have a nose around if you haven't done so already.

    Here: http://bis.ucc.ie/

There should be email addys for you to email and ask questions through.

Eh. I didn't do BIS so I've no idea...

I'll ask around, I'd recommend emailing them or career services though.

I have been looking at this course as well (except im lookin in Galway).

Are ye sure it isn't just a little too general? It doesnt seem to really go into that much detail in anything... but yet the job prospects seem to be really good.

who would be a good lecturer/staff member to talk bout the course to?

    Hey lads,

I'm doin BIS in UCC. Naturally enough its suited to some people and not for others. It's tough going though. In a way its like a 2 in 1 coz your doing a lot of Computers and a lot of Business! In first year you have around 25hours a week! Its not the type of course that you can do nothing for all year and cram for the last week or two. There's constantly projects and interim exams to be done.

The majority of the lecturers are dead sound and very approchable. There is great emphasis put on student relationships, eg.organising coffee mornings for students etc.

Any particular questions you want answered??

I totally disagree with that, if you have good IT knowledge and a business background from secondary school, you can get by with just doing the least possible work all year, and then just flicking through the day before each exam. It's pretty predictable in content.

reproducing a load of uninteresting crap in exams can be tough, but its easy to flake over a few pages of notes for a few hours before the exam and still get your 2h

as for jamieh, ive seen people not attend all year, not do any of the projects and cram a week before the exam and still make the next year.

Shall we assume you did't get on too well. Giving advise to a 7 year old thread? I'm sure the OP does't care anymore.
