    Hit a proper music school.
The school of Music on Chatham Row is a good place to start. Mate of mine got his diploma there.

Just out of curiousity, how many years would you want to be playing before you'd start getting grades?
I know it depends on talent, but just say for an average guy who picked up sticks tomorrow?

As far as i can tell it works exactly like any other instrument. The sooner you start the better. Start lessons at the bottom then go for grade1 and progress from there. Nine times out of ten the longer you spend teaching yourself the longer you'll spend unlearning those bad habbits you don't even know you have!

Now if only I could take my own advice! ;)

I'm not looking to start playing myself, I already do, just curious as to how quickly a person can progress through grades.
I've always been curious about getting myself graded.

So far up till yesterday i never even knew u could get grades (silly me), i've been playing for 2 and a half years and i have an excellent teacher so i am pretty good already. I practice my rudiments all the time and i love playing. Is it neccesary to have a high grade to become a session drummer?
I've already recorded with my band but a freelance recordin session for a bit a cash sounds intreeging. Are there any music schools i could get a drumming grade on the far south dublin/ high north wicklow area?

There are no Irish schools of music that do grade exams. They have to be done with an English school that only come over every so often. Starting off as a session drummer you will have to have grades and a good reading ability because obviously theres no time to practise with bands. A good teacher is essential. They are the ones that arrange the exams for you.
