missing an exam

Right, during the exams I sprained my foot, a combination of that and my likelihood of failing meant I missed one the next day (second year TSM Sociology). Not a great excuse, I know. Due to the complete emptiness of my brain over the past week I didn't notify Trinity of my absence. Now people (i.e. classmates) are telling me I may be in trouble, eg. they may not let me sit it in September. Realising the gravity of the situation, I am off to the doctor tonight to get a certificate that I injured my foot, albeit over a week late. I will also get onto my tutor about it. Surely missing one exam will not result in me having to repeat the whole year? Does anyone know?

This looks like a job for ...............EDUCAT.

    That's a crap excuse.
You definitely should have contacted "the college" earlier.
They will let you repeat in September but I think they'll make you jump through a few loops.
Contact the education officer at the college for better, accuarate information.

You're in a bad place but you're not screwed. This can be sorted. Email me (education AT tcdsu.org), or just send me a PM.

Definitely talk to Educat as soon as possible and then contact your tutor.

Automatically expelled. IS what would happen if you where an engineer, even says so on the results sheet, under the legend.

Not what actually happens - you can appeal your unexplained absence to the Court of Appeals and they can decide what action to then recommend to the Senior Lecturer. I've sat on the Engineering Faculty one for three years and it's something that comes up every time.

This is why it's a good idea to keep your tutor informed.

I knew there would be something like an appeal system, but the legend does say you're out on your ear.

Also says you can't repeat a year more than once, ferrioxide is the exception.

I'm apparently out on my ear with this F2 I'll more than likely get cos I just gave up before exams. I still reckon they'll let me repeat.

but didn't ferrio swap from science to pcam? or something along those lines?

There is one famous individual around these parts who did first year four times - so one extra go at a year is nothing!

First of all let your tutor know, but definitely submit the med cert. As long as all that is done before the board of examiners meets then you should just be able to do it in the repeats in Aug/Sept and it will only count as your 1st attempt.

As for certain people repeating 1st year 4 times, in fact they only repeated three times, their 1st attempt was not a repeat. Bu tI know of a number of students throughout the college who have repeated a year more than once.

    Best of Luck

Just wondering is there a limit to the the number of exams you can repeat in Sept? If you failed 4 of your 6 exams would the let you sit all 4 again, for example :) Or does it depend on how badly you failed or does it just not matter at all?

Then you have others who've done near the exact same course for 5 years. 2 years of 1, two years of the next, 1 year of the next, before dropping out :P

For engineering - you can resit every exam in September. The only concern is the pressure that you will be putting yourself under to bring your grades up in so many subjects and in such a short time.

you can only resit an exam if you've sit it in the first place. if you don't turn up then they won't let you do the supps without a very good excuse
